nerfed by new rules, but improve with a new codex
worked over by the new rules AND worsened by the new codex
greater cheese than ever, but toned back with a new codex
unstoppable initally and then a misprint in the new codex gives 15pt wraithlord troop options
5th Edition what what what?
With 5th ed. almost here and the primary rule changes already being discussed, do you feel the Eldar are not a viable option for the next 4-5 years? With other armies gaining equivalent FOF, being able to go to ground, screen units, use armor more effectively, and watch snipers fall out of use in armies because of the new hitting/rending rules. Or do you believe this will be a power up from 4th for the Eldar and believe these rules should benefit them? And will things become better/worse upon the release of the 5th edition Codex?

Er its a bit early to tell give it a few months....
What once was courage has now cursed in the wars we've made.
We are the sinners, before our graves.
I played against Eldar in a 5th Ed game recently. They've definitely been nurfed in some areas, but the still benefit the same as most races. The big nurfs were to Falcons (skimmer in general) and Harlequins (no consolidation), but there are a lot of minor benefits that make up for it.
Running helps out SS and WGs a lot. Fielding a unit of 10 Wraithguard that can run helps them footslog better, and they're scoring to the last one. Combine that with Conceal and Fortune and it's a great unit for objectives. Go to ground helps Dire Avengers since now they can blade storm from cover, then go to ground the next turn and get a 3+ cover save. Eldar also do well with kill points as their armies tend to have smaller numbers of units. Also, the new "Perils of the Warp" only does a wound, not insta-kill your FS.
In general, the min/maxed power armies suffer the most. The flying circus isn't nearly as good as it was. GW seems to have done well in it's goal for pushing armies away from min/max to more generalized lists that require tactical flexibility.
Units that were improved I'd say would be Howling Bansees, as their 4+ armor allows them to survive if they wipe out a unit and are left in the open. Dire Avengers, Guardians, and Wraitghguard (all scoring), psykers, and all vehicles but the Falcon.
I have to support this point of view. I don't see any real value in starting this poll now but would recommend, instead, that you start it up again in the Autumn once most folks have had a chance to get a proper feel for the new rules. Right now it's mainly guesswork (especially since the rules aren't even officially released!)and the exeperiences of a lucky few, but in a few months time it can be based on actual widespread experience.
