Does taking slaves have a purpose anymore, apart from being able to go "ner ner, got yer models"?
As far as I can see it doesn't. This saddens me. I was looking forward to my first win-by-slaves.
I do not think it does anymore except for activating the animus vitae and the personal trophy racks.
I would love to see it give us some sort of bonus but that would be a codex thing, not a FAQ thing (which I hope is well written come this July 12th).
I wouldn't mind we got more wargear that is activated by taking slaves, thats one way to preserve the "pirate" + "needing souls" fluff.
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
True. That sounds like a v. cool piece of fluff. Unfortunately I get the feeling that GW are moving away from these nice "fluffy" rules as it sees them as being a tad too fiddly and unneccesary. Fortunately, rumours of 3+ saves and boltguns all round are still unfounded.
Each slave is an extra victory point but in 5th edition it might not mean anything.
Prey they don't take you alive
Slaves are good for Victory points, more for fun and fluff anyways. But the way you get them is tough I think.
you are in a drawn combat, you kill 3 models and the squad is wiped out, I think you just roll for those three models, but I think because it's destroyed you just auto take those three models as slaves.
In a drawn combat you kill 3 models and a 4 guys run, and you destroy them in the sweep. do you roll for the three and auto 4 or do you just get all 7 as VP?
Help the kin TAKE your soul, I mean, take your soul...
I play Vassal. I'm in V40K Open Ladder.
As long as you win close combat or make the enemy turn tail you can roll to see if you get slaves from evey enemy casuality.
Prey they don't take you alive
Irony is in 5th it becomes easier to capture slaves than ever...shame only a handfull of missions will use VP and outside of those it only matters for the animus vitae (which I suspect will become mandatory for a punisher dracon/archon).
Please note that we should now keep our discussions within the 40K Forum. Since 5th Ed is now a "reality", we can no longer discuss it as rumours, etc, and we now need to be mindful of the copyright issues, etc, etc. A new Thread within the general Dark Eldar Forum would be appropriate, I'd say.
I hope you are happy with this. (Thanks, Crazy - All agoniser-related discussion now moved to this new Thread - Raven)
So now back to topic.
Taking slaves is just fun, so even if it makes no difference in winning, it's still a good way to show your opponend your disrespect for his space puppys;-)
"So that's your Commander? Mh nice, hell make a nice figurehead for my raider. Or will I keep him as a housedog?"
