Welcome to Librarium Online!
Alright, I'm fairly certain that this is the case, but I'm not completely sure. If you replace a standard ork boy'z slugga and choppa with a shoota, does he only get one attack?
When assaulting, they also get a bonus attack for charging, making the grand total 3 attacks for shoota boyz during the assault, and 4 attacks for slugga boyz.
It may seem off balance, but keep in mind that their relatively low initiative and horribly low armor save are going to mean a lot of those boyz aren't going to survive long enough to attack.
Oh, really? Awesome! I'm still in the process of gathering my army, so I haven't had a chance to actually play a game yet, and there isn't a Hobby Shop within 300 (or so) miles of where I live.
Thank you for the clarification!
I am happy to tell you that is NOT the case!
The statlines in the codicies always show the unit's BASIC statline. Wargear is usually not included, and if it is, it is shown in a ( ) in the statline table.
Boyz have 2 attacks from the start, Slugga boyz get 1+ A from their weapons. Shoota boyz only have the basic 2 attacks.
Does that make sense?
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Perfect sense, thank you! I was trying to wrap my head around why a person wouldn't just convert all his boyz to shootaz, if they had the same melee profile, but a better gun. This makes things a lot clearer. Now, I have to decided which way I want to lean soldier-wise. Moar dakka, or more stabby-bits?
It's up to you if you want more shooty or stabby. The popular opinion is that shoota boyz are better in large 20-30 ork groups of footsloggers, and slugga boyz are better in trukks.
I've found that the reverse can also work well. It all really depends on how you want to play. If you want to be able to widdle down your opponent in shooting, than shoota boyz are best. If you want to rush into close combat as quickly as possible, than slugga boyz are best. Of course, the best idea is probably to have a mixture of the two, but it's up to you.
I'm honestly leaning more towards shooty, mostly because the reason I started collecting the models was because Dawn of War tickled me pink, and the flash gitz in that game tear everything to pieces. The two people who I'll probably be fighting exclusively are going to play necrons and Imperial Guard, so I'm trying to figure out what would work best against them.
You might want to brace yourself for some heartbreak.
Flash Gitz aren't very good at all. Some say they're the worst, although I'm not sure about that. They're definitely one of the worst though. They aren't bad in themselves, but they cost way too much for what they do.
If you really want 'shooty', than you really should play lootas instead. I've also had a lot of success with battlewagons filled with tankbustas, but many people don't like that, so it's up to you.
Haha yeah I was devastated when I saw how useless the Flash Gitz were in the codex. Stick to using them in Dawn of War by all means ( i hate been on the business end of them ) but leave them in the codex.
Yea, Lootas are probably the only Ork unit you can rely on to do what they're supposed to every time. Lootas = Epic Win!
