3-alien Dakkawarrior brood
A poll with an end date on it
I was wondering which you guys prefer, a Dakkafex (2xTL devos, +1BS) or a 3-man brood of warriors (+1S, +1BS, +1Sv, TL-devos). They both cost the same amount (a one point difference if you dont take FH on the fex). The fex gets 8 S6 shots while the warriors get 12 S4 shots. You can look at the other differences, im kinda scared of getting more specific in the forum. I tend to use both, but I want to see what you guys think of them.
The Warriors are better if you use more squads of them, rather then going all out with the fex. Even MEQ's will fail saves if you force them to take a lot of them.
Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscript catapultas habebunt.
I would say the fex is better than the three warriors because its a lot harder to kill.

I prefer the warriors especially in high point games as I love my sniperfexes. I usually roll very well with them. Also the Warriors can eat up that all important HQ slot if I want to run a swarm army.
I'd take the Dakkafex, since (as pointed out by Phalanx) they are tougher. I would also imagine that the extra S goes a long way towards making up for the lesser shot count. I'd do the math, but it's getting late. He also gets all eight until he dies. I think the only viable reason to run Warriors in that Elite slot is synapse.
Both are fine, but they serve different purposes on the field, with pros and cons.
Carnifex, TL Devourers, ES, for 113 pts
8 S6 shots
4 wounds beast with 3+ save
Can pen armor 11 and glance armor 12, which means can pen on most side armors.
Hard to kill
Once it dies, you loose all 8 shots at once
Can only shoot one target at time
No synapse support
Tyranid Warrior brood, TL Devourers, ES, EC, TS for 114
12 S4 shots
Can target different units
Can be at distant locations
2 wounds with a 4+ save
Can only glance armor 10
Once they die, the number of shots are reducedby 4
So, if you're looking for a good heavy support that can stand alone in the field, kill infantry or light armor and you don't need additional synapse support, the Carnifex is a better option, but if you're looking to have more synapse, infantry control and doesn't care about armor support, then the Warrior brood is a better option.
Hey, thanks Barreldragon for correcting me. I ended up confusing Warriors with Zooes, thinking we could split the warriors the same way we do with Zooes, hence my coments on shooting different targets.
I totally agree on your comments.
please remember to put an end date on your polls.
I'd personally use both - for different purposes. Lots of shots is nice, but Chaos players will mock you and attack yourself esteem for attacking plague marines or something with S4.
You can make them cry with S6 though

In Karmoon's example your shots will still wound 5/9 of the time (instead of 1/3 of the time). That reroll means that even the lower str 4 dakkawarriors can still put out the hurt.
That said, this poll is sort of a comparing apples to oranges problem. Yes they're both dakka and yes they're both anti-infantry, but warriors and fexes fill different roles on the battlefield. Which one I would choose depends entirely on the composition of the rest of my army. If I'm running an elite hard hitting force made up mostly of monsters and genestealers than I put down the fex. He's big, mean nasty and hard to take out. He has a lot more survivability and packs almost the exact same punch (against t4). That said, if I'm running a swarm army, I'm dropping down the warriors. They provide me with much needed synapse to cover my gaunt swarms as they advance. Even better, if I'm doing a 5th ed swarm, I don't even need to give them EC, thus making them a cheaper unit than the fex.
Both of them are fantastic units, and that's something we nid players need to remember. Both of them are some of the best ant-infantry in the game, put either one down and your opponent is going to have to deal with them. Put down 3 units of either one and your opponent is going to get real worried real fast.
To answer the poll, I personally plan on using the dakkawarriors, but that's because as I move into 5th ed I find myself fielding more gaunts and needing more synapse, if you're still doing a hardhitting stealer army, or want to stick with nidzilla (we can have a chat about that later) feel free to use the fex, I'm certainly not going to tell you it's a bad unit. Which one is better isn't a universal truth, it's something that depends on your playing style, your army, and what you want that unit to do.
