As I mentioned in my last post about the PK dependent lists we orks have to run, I was thinking that surely GW could of done something useful with the onset of the 5th edition and us orks.
Because of all the modifiers being used now to substiture all the vehicle damage tables, blast scatters and cover saves surely the Uge Choppa for orks could of been a weapon well worth of note?
I think they should give it that maximum 4+ save against uge choppa rule, but with modifiers such as, -1 to the enemies armour save, meaning that a terminator will get a 3+ save, space marine will get 4+, ard boy will get 5+ and a regular boy, or anything else with a terrible armour save gets no save, as the 6+ armour is removed from play because of the huge force this axe puts down.
I for one LOVE the uge choppa model, the rules seem fine for it since on the charge, it still provides a 2+ to wound against meqs and as most lists should run a squad of lootas or tank bustas, tank killing shouldn't be that big of an issue, and regardless a uge choppa against the back armour of most vehicles will render it dead or at least provide a good chance of a totally disabling hit.
So does what I've been saying make sense? I really don't think they should of scrapped the rule altogether, maybe for regular boys it was a good idea as orks are plenty powerful as it is in the massive numbers we can afford, but just a small bonus on the uge choppa to make it more useful against marines would be great.
Because we should have more than one way of dealing with 2/3+ saves.
I had the exact same idea when I was reading the new codex. With the negative 1 to armor save it makes the uge choppa useful but not too powerful. Since the ork codex is still very new, I dont think any changes will come around any time soon. So we'll just have to make due with what we have for a while.
What is dis signature nonsence?! dem stupid human zoggers are always trien to confuze us.
However, GW seems to be shying away from anything related to negative modifiers, for the most part. So, perhaps if the Big Choppa doubled the user's strength (but did not strike last or ignore armor saves) it would be useful. This would also make sense in real terms- a huge blade that has the strength to eventually hack through an armored vehicle, but doesn't have the crackling power conduits to cut through armor with ease?
I'd also be down for just making it a power weapon.
Of course, any of the options discussed might warrant a slight price increase, but at least they'd be useable.
I mean, how often do you see big choppas being used, even in friendly games?
Won't ever happen because it's too much like fantasy - very few 'power weapon' type effects in fantasy, but for every point of strength past 3 your opponents armor save is reduced by 1.
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
