Welcome to Librarium Online!
It seems like GW is practically making every Necron player take a Warscythe instead of a Staff of Light. I mean you see the Warscythe models everywhere but the only Staff of Light model I've seen is on the GW U.S site and its pretty ugly plus you can only buy it seperately (only Warscythe in the Warrior Phalanx) So is it cool taking the Warscythe model and saying its a Staff of Light hes holding? Because the Staff of Light seems better for all around purposes compared to a Warscythe imo.

Not according to WYSIWYG, unfortunatly... (Rulebook p47) If you decide to proxy a Staff of Light that way, you'll probably have to inform your opponent and make sure he accept it first :)
I personally don't have that problem since I'm using the old Necron Lord model! :D So that may be an option for you too :)
Hm, not to shot down your post gauss_storm, but it's not because you never found/saw it that it doesn't exist...
GW made models for both a Lord with Staff of Light and a Lord with Warscythe.
(EDIT: By the way, Runner, it's been discussed here at least once before... look there if it can help you :)

So if there is no model then how do I get a Staff of Light? Is the U.S store the only option?
I have actually seen all 5 versions of the Necron lord, 2 are modeled with a more staff like things, and 3 with a scythe like thing. But WYSIWYG does'nt matter for any of them. Atleast thats what I interpret it by, when a wargear section says all equipment must be represented on the model I do it or I am givin the option to equip it via premade parts.
cool thanks for clearing it up for me!
Just let your opponent know thats its a staff of light. hes probably not going to know the difference, or even care, as long as your honest and bring it up.
If you can get you hands on a resurection lord as well, then magnitize the arms and you can equip him as you see fit. He'll probably fit in your case better too.
The reason why is not really a big deal is that the defined Warscythe actually has a muzzle/green rod placement similar to a typical Gauss weapon. As we all know, the WS has no ranged attack. The SoL, on the other hand, is modeled without the muzzle yet it has a shooting attack.
Just let your opponent know ahead of time. In a tournament situation I don't think it is a WYSIWYG infraction. It could be argued, based upon the above reasoning, that the defined WYSIWYG representations are misleading.

The destroyer lord comes with warscythe and SoL so you can pick which one and he's got a res orb arm and a phylactery arm if you're worried about wysiwyg. He's also T6 and moves like a jetbike. I prefer the destroyer lord anyway.
Most people don't have a clue what necron wargear looks like anyway so you can get away with saying a WS is a SoL.
