Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am sorta new to necrons (bought and resold) I would like to know what are the pros and cons of the Necrons?
I want to make a close combat necron list. I will use 3 wraiths with a necron lord with a destroyer body, orb, and warscythe I will also use tomb spyders. I will hope to get to charge by turn two with the wraith units and be in close combat by turn 3 or 4 with the spyders.
Do you think my aggressive in your face tomb world tactics could work?
I recommend throwing in another unit of 3 wraiths and a unit of 10 scarab swarms on top of the 3 wraiths you plan on having. Very scary indeed!! Be careful though and pick your combats wisely.
Keep the destroyer lord cheap. Maybe staff of light and destroyer body only.
Tomb spyders are excellent in 5th edition. Very tough if you generate 1 scarab swarm and decent in close combat.
backing blutac on the additional wraiths, having the WBB option if your squad gets wiped is very important. After you get the wraiths scarabs and tomb spyders together look at flayed ones, having a few infiltrate in from the board edge behind your opponent could allow you to take out heavy weapon threats. If you're going pure CC consider a small squad of pariahs mixed with flayed ones, would give you some anti-super infantry/monstrous creature ability. A monolith would help as well, give you a way to bring in any units you might not get into combat fast enough.
The pros and cons of a Necron army is heavily dependent on what you field. However they do have some basics.
Pros: Our units regenerate. Our ranged weaponry can take out anything with enough shots. We have an overall high toughness with good saves (Necrons are very durable). Good moral. And the potential to excel at any combat style.(Necrons are normally considered a shooting army however they can be good in close combat and also very maneuverable.
Cons: Phase out. Overall low initiative (sans cc units). Medium range firepower. "Necron" rule makes things expensive. Hard pressed to destroy vehicles (this isn't a major impact as we can still turn even landraiders into useless heaps with our basic gun)
Good luck with your armylist, when you get something you like put together post it.
Alzer your tactica on tomb spyders open my eyes, I like that even with a ws of 2 they hit ws 4 with 4s then their strength of 6 wounds on 2s.
Pariahs are never used according to most of the lists, but I was wondering why. The number of strength 5 attacks on a turn in which they charge is crazy, with 5 phariahs you can shoot 10 str 5 shots(which might cause them to run with ld 7) than another 10 str 5 attacks with no save allowed.
If there was an elite unit that had str and toughness 5, reduces ld, had an assualt 2 str 5 gun, and does not allow a save of any kind in combat for 36pts in a space marine codex do you think they would use them?
Blutac when you say "Be careful though and pick your combats wisely" what should I avoid with the basic 3 wraiths and necron lord unit?
Also what is the typical amount of necrons you should bring to prevent from phasing out?
Do wraiths and flawed ones get an extra attack for having two close combat weapons?
Remember necrons strength is shooting, so purely CC can work, but a REAL CC army will usually over come you, power weapons, 2 weapons, etc. If you really want some CC I'd recommend a deceiver to walk with a couple of squads of warriors (your force org), not only is he good in CC but can control squads and push em back. Helps keep things more on your terms.
But I also don't like Pariahs because as much as they cost, 5 will go down quite easily and you're out a bunch of points. The Pariah tactics state they're not for the feint of heart as they are tricky to use.
Also dropping a lith RIGHT on their heads is funny as anything!

Dark trainer I dont plan on making an all out cc list, I just want to have 2-3 units that can get in cc fast, hopefully forcing them to make some mistakes or throw away their plan.
Wraiths with a necron lord with orb, destroyer body, and war scythe should be able to cause 3-5 wounds per assault phase and hopefully be able to charge by turn two.
Tomb spyders are really good in combat and with a scrab they will have 5 wounds at toughness 6 while they try to reach combat and plus they can use their abilities to help with wbb rolls.
I plan on fielding a small unit of pariahs to act as a counter assault unit for the basic necrons, I will keep them behind where they will recieve a cover save. I will gladly hit the ground to bump it up to 3+ if I am hit by alot of low ap weapons, besides they want to wait for cc anyway where they excell, you want them around when cc is inevitable.
I am basically thinking outside the box, I think I can sacrifice 400-600 pts to give my list some cc potential.
What attracts the most gun fire in a necron list?
Do wraiths recieve an extra attack for having two close combat weapons?
Most shot at necron unit is probably destroyers as they are also the most powerful necron unit.
Wraiths come with 3 attacks they don't really need more. Flayed ones have 2.
Keeping Pariahs as counterchargers is not a bad idea, gives you some protection against MCs and such, match them with a few flayed ones so you have come cheaper wounds.
And yeah, Necron players are REALLY picky about their units not taking Pariahs. I just don't have any and happen to enjoy Tomb Spyders myself.
Having 2-3 close combat specialists is important for a balanced Necron list, as our CC specialists can keep enemy assault troops out of our lines.
2-3 squads of 10 warriors is popular I'm fielding 2X12 until I get another squad.
I'm glad you liked that tactica I had a load of fun writting it ^^.
I have made a list you guys can check out in the necron army list.
Personally I find a D. Lord with a phase shifter and warscythe does wonders. He's taken down 3 marine squads (5 man) in 1 game before. When they need 6's to wound it's a nice feeling.
As far as pariahs go, they cost twice as much as a warrior yet are easier to kill. That's my main problem with them. In an army of tough SoB we have the glass cannon that is Pariahs.
