I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else, so I decided to bring this up:
(Also would like to make sure I'm doing this right...)
If I'm reading this all correctly, then we have great objective holders in our gaunts.
1. Park a gaunt brood on an objective with cover. (Most cover is 4+)
2. Purposefully Go To Ground when fired upon. (+1 to Cover Save)
3. Lurk instead of rolling Instinctive Behavior at the beginning of your turn. (+1 Cover Save)
4. The gaunts now have a 2+ Cover Save.
Pretty spiffy for holding an objective, right? Two thing to note:
1. This is obviously no good against flamers. That goes without saying, but I thought I'd hit that point before there are a half dozen "but flamers..." related posts.
2. I'm not sure if you may Lurk while in Synapse range. I don't believe so. (I tried this while out of synapse, by the way...)
I came upon this little trick while playing an Annihilation Mission (Kill Points) against Mech Eldar; all Serpent Avengers and Falcons. I had to do something to keep all my WoN gaunts safe, and luckily I pulled a draw.

In theory, with two squads in a certain formation, you could do that out in the open as well.

Just to throw a random comment in there, I rarely see people play with flamers and if they do it's usually on one or two models only. *shrugs*
As for Instinctive Behavior/Lurk I'm presuming that you are making sure that the gaunt brood is out of synapse range at the beginning of the turn?
Tyranid and Eldar player....don't ask me how I ended up playing these two armies, just smile, nod, slowly move away and don't make eye contact!
There's one other glaring problem with this tactic. Namely, gaunts can't actually hold objectives while lurking. So yes, you can give your gaunts a 2+ cover save of evilness, but your opponent can just ignore them as they can't actually hold the location until they're back in synapse or you make your IB check (good luck with that one).

While this is a spiffy idea, it'll be hard to pull off. I recommend that you keep this in mind and use it when the situation arises, but do not plan your strategy around this. This would be useful for planting a unit of gaunts on your own objective in the capture and control mission.
"The internet perceives censorship as damage, and routes around it."
There are some similar units out there who can do this, too, the best being the Eldar Pathfinder, as they'll usually get a 2+ cover save without even going to ground. Kroot also come to mind when in woods; their bonus cover save coupled with going to ground gives them a 2+ when hiding in trees. Very cool stuff overall.
Also, RE: not many people taking flamers... that was true for 4th edition, but I have a feeling that flamers will be making themselves known in 5th edition, with the simple fact that cover saves are so much easier to come by now.
Someone who can (I can't from work), check the Tyranid FAQ. I seem to recall them saying something along the lines of "you can't do this."

That's crazy good, then.

Well the idea is still great.
Let's take a really cheap unit of 8 Gaunt with Spinefists (40 pts) and let's screen another bigger unit of gaunts with it, they should be able to cover the whole unit on a large front.
The front unit can go to ground and get a 5+ save and the unit behind them can do the same for a 3+ save. The thing can be done with Tyranid Warriors too, to give them at least a 4+ cover save... would work great with CC Warriors with Leaping.
That cover save is so good for Tyranids .
