Welcome to Librarium Online!
So with the advent of 5th, I was thinking about reworking Grots into a footslogging army list. I just really dislike the models. Anyone have any ideas for subs in a friendly game, or any cool conversion ideas?
My favorite model for Grotesques are "Krootesques" - converted Kroot carnivores. I cut off their hands and their "plume" on their head so they look bald and remodeled the legs to make them look like they are running.
Here is a pic of 3 of them very unfinished (and I am not using the guns in the picture) - I have finished them since and added a bit more to them but haven't taken a picture them yet.
"On a hunch, I melted them down and inhaled the fumes and read the dark eldar codex again, AND FOUND A BUNCH OF NEW RULES HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER WORDS..." [Gardeth on modelling & interpreting the DE Codex]
I have to agree that they're not bad, but they could be a lot better. If I were to convert another model into a Grotesque, I think I'd start with the Vampire Counts Crypt Ghouls from WHFB.

Whats so great about Grotesques (and warpbeasts too) is that the fluff allows for a lot of creativity when converting. As long as they seem to be somewhat dead or pieced-together and don't carry any ranged weaponry its all fair game in my opinion. Also for warpbeasts as long as they have 4 legs and can fit on the standard rectangular base its playable. (WHFB vampire Counts Dire Wolves are about $20US and come with 10 models! Much cheaper than Warp Beast blisters.)
