Some days now Ive been trying to find my next army project and my focus atm is on Eldar. As much as I love wargaming, so much i love modelling and painting. And its important for me that the aemy I field works on the tabel aswell speak to my imagination. I really dislike fielding miniatures I dont like. The Eldar miniature range has some great models, and I want to build my army around them.
But the pure question is: does it work?
For example, I would want to field 2-3 Wraithlords in my army, does this work?
Adding 2 psychers (lovely models) and wraithguard(also loveley).
Also harlequins, I know they are bad ass. But how far can I go with fielding them? Like with the wraith lord I would want the most possible. But I dont know if these units work well together.
And if this works, what are the best units to have synergy with in this list? What other units does my army require.
Hope you guys can help greets,
Ideally you're going to need the codex - there are that many rules and bits and bobs that it's worth a look.
In the interim however;
You've got 3 Heavy slots ...so 3 wraithlords is a yes!
Harlies are an elite choice and (as far as I can remember) there is no limit on the size of the troupe. So you're be allowed 3 BIG troupes if you like. BTW ..if I have mis-remembered, can I ask that the contingent from HMS pettygloater don't leap on this - like they seem to do an embarrassing amount on LO. Anyway ...I digress.
Balance this 2 troop units (2 token units of 8 guardians each) and a HQ unit (use one of those psychers) and anything else you then want.
You could field an iyanden army, use wraithguard as troops (VERY expensive but they're tough) maybe just one troops choice for them though it's over 500pts for the squad I believe. Using a Seer-council as your HQ, some elite harlequins, and wraithlords as your heavy support (w/ anti-tank weapons) could be a very effective if very price-heavy army.
Well yes I already got the Codex
Point is, I know I CAN field 3 wraithlords, 3 troupes of herlequins etc etc. But will it be effective? Is the list gonna stand up to players who did actually max their lists out more. I dont ask to get a list as cheesy as theirs, just for me to have a chance and a good game
So 3 wraithlords really is a way to go for heavy support? And then all elites full of herlequins, all troops full of wraithguard? The idea seems wonderfull but I really dont know how it works....
BTW, I'm not going for the cheapest army:p Its not like money aint an issue but I make enough money to get a pricy force.
I mean price in points just as much as in monetary value. Wraithlords are exceptionaly powerful. Wraithguard as well, though again using two squads won't leave you with many other options. Harlequins I've never seen in action so it's hard for me to say.
I'd say 3 wraithlords is pushing cheese myself. You'll most likely want to put brightlances on two and maybe a starcannon on the third.
When I say expensive for wraithguard I"m talkin about $110 for the squad. However I've seen a 10-model wraithguard squad in action and I was impressed to say the least.
Dire avengers and standard Guardian Defenders are always good troops though.
well, heres the deal on eldar. if you already have the codex, thats a fantastic start. a great amount of info, and it has awesome pictures of all the units. wraithguard/lords are awesome. another thing to consider tho, are war walkers. they may not have the aesthetic appeal of the wraithlord, but for almost the same cost, u can field 3 of them. hook em up with scatter lasers, and BAM, ur gettin 24 s6 ap6 shots a round, for 180 pts, 195 with spirit stones, which have been extremely upgraded with the new 5th ed rules.
i know a lot of ppl like harlies, and for good reason, its just they have never came through for me, personally. that could be because of not fully understanding how to use them, or their rules, but for whatever reason, it is what it is.
as far as heavy support i would recommend doing 2 units of 3 war walkers, with a 5 man unit of dark reapers. add in maugan ra as an HQ, and u have some SERIOUS firepower to back up your 1-2 units of wraithguard. as far as other troop choices, it really depends on what kind of army you want to run. the one thing about eldar, is they can do anything, you just have to have the right troops. we have specialists in every aspect, only thing is, we arent very tough. as far as filling up the rest of your force chart for troops, i would suggest 1-2 full units of dire avengers, and 1-2 6-9 man units of jetbikes. you could then add in some shining spears, and take an autarch on a jetbike as the other hq. then i would recommend 2 full units of howling banshees both in wave serpents.
i think this would be a really killer army for you, but, any part of it, might not be your style. the one thing that this list does tho, is it allows you to really have a lot of flexibility. if you added in 1 falcon and 1 unit of fire dragons, i think it would be full, and you would have a lot of firepower, and be able to deal with a lot of different situations.
hope this helps.
3 wraithlords will be effective, but its getting kind of cheesey.
I would field it as an Iyanden army to avoid accussatory groans from your opponent.
This list would be extremely resiliant, but slow. Consider some faster elements such as some jetbikes, vypers, or some mounted aspect squads.

@travasty420 Why would you take spirit stones on war walkers since with the new rules, vehicle squadrons always ignore crew stunned? Maybe I missed something?
The Hand that guides.
Well I dont mind if my enemies call my Army cheese with 3 wraithlords. I know I did it because of the models I explain it, so thats not a problem for me.
I thought some more about the wraith guard troops. I mean... T6 objective taking troops seems nice:p thats wirth 110 bucks for a unit. So 1 or 2 units? Or maybe even in transport?
Someone noticed I would need fast units, do harlequins suppport this idea? Or should I not max out on harlequins but instead 1-2 units harlequins and then some... jetbikes? Dunno, really I am not that familiar with eldar.
I Got myself 4k points of Tyranids, so I am already into warhammer. Just never really got into eldar yet.
