Farseer, every Eldar army should have one.

Farseer. I hardly ever see a good reason for not taking one. Pretty much regardless of the army type, it can really benefit from at least one of the farseer powers. Close second: another farseer.

Unfortunately, Farseers are probably out best HQ units. The boon their psychic powers provide to the army as a whole trumps the one track slaughterfest that is the avatar and the careful planning and versatility of the autarch. The reason I say unfortunately is because since farseers are so good its hard for me to justify using the avatar and an autarch in the same army, which could be pretty fun except you lose out on all those sweet sweet powers.

It can't just be the old Ulthwé junkie in me that makes me say farseer. They are amazingly useful, and can be equipped to do anything and be anywhere on the board.
The reason I say farseer and not Eldrad is that he's:
A: Too expensive. He may be undercosted for what he does, but he's still too expensive when I can get what I want from him from either one or two lesser farseers.
    B: He can't have a jetbike.

Avatar. Soaks up fire, meq killin machine in close combat. Id say that in the 20 or so games ive played with him, hes made up his points over 15 times. Best so far is 530 points of necrons. The farseer is great, no doubt, but the avatar makes eldar so much less fragile. On a side note, hes just damn cool.

eldrad, then farseer, then avatar, then phoenix lords, then autarchs.

Eldrad just owns all, with a crazy amount of psychic powers, farseers are pretty much covered, the avatar makes an awesome core of a force, looks cool, draws fire, and supports other eldar in a way similar to an uber warlock.

They're all great, with the exception of autarchs, who do nothing that you couldn't do with equivalent aspects as well or cheaper. Plus, an autarch means less farseer/ avatar/ pheonix lord goodness.

Maybe it should be "What's the best HQ other than Farseers?"

Yea I think Farseer was always gonna win this one, I'm not one for using special characters so I've never used Eldrad but as has already been mentioned he's expensive and a standard farseer will be able to do most of the things he does,

While some may say that there isn't much that Eldrad can accomplish that two Farseers couldn't do cheaper. I personally agree, but taking him allows me to get the Avatar in as well. I play Guardian heavy lists so the Avatar/Eldrad combo is a must for me.
