I was just wondering if anyone could tell me
Do you use Asurmen? If so is he worth the HQ slot and points he takes up, on first glance he seems amazing, nice stats, shooting 5 times into a squad before assaulting, immune to instant death, making your avengers fearless.
My only fear is by joining him to my squad of dire avengers’ means I have him, my farseer and a full squad of avengers in one wave serpent and that seems kind of risky to me, also by taking him I lose the avatar and he is oh so useful.
Just wondering how people have found fielding him?

idk man. i havent fielded him, but i really think the avatar has more uses. i dont think he's an effective p. lord. karandras is easily the best in my opinion. hehe.
anyways. a dire avengers squad has its uses, but not to be the ulitmate game turning unit. hahaha. and yes, thats incredibly risky. hahaha

I've used him and think he's awesome. He's the only phoenix lord with an invulnerable save and with his wave serpent and avengers he'll survive shooting a lot longer than an avatar might. With the new rules your avengers being fearless can be essential on the last turn of the game when your holding onto that objective and the enemy is shooting everything he has at you to try to displace you. Now he actually has to kill all the avengers instead of trying to just make them run.
Although I'd leave the farseer in a different unit as that is quite a large amount of points in one area.
I've fielded Asurmen in a couple of games and he has had his moments. I recal him cutting a swathe through deep striking Terminators once. But I also find that he doesn't impact the game enough to warrant taking him. A beast in combat and resilient to boot, but he will not hold your line together and draw massed fire away from your heavy support choices like the Avatar nor will he increase the effective firepower of your shooting like a Farseer. He is fun to use on occasion, but I find he rarely gets his points worth.
