As a general leader type model I think that they stack up well against other races and you can load them pretty much any wargear you fancy to make them do what you want.
On the other hand you only have 2 HQ slots and with Avatar, Farseers and Phoenix Lords I just don't see space for the Autarch.
Now in Apocolypse, bring him on.
There a bit meh,.........
I mean Farseer has more utility doom, guide fortune etc.
Avatar is more powerful in CC + gives fearless
Problem eldar have is its a good model but there is better HQ choices so unless you have a specific task in mind, eg hawk wings melta gun tank hunter.
There is just better choices.
I think they can be very potent if used to augment an existing part of your army, or against enemies where your farseer's effectiveness might be hamstrung, like psychic hood or shadow in the warp.
I just recently fielded a jetbike autarch against a friend's grey knight army, along with a squad of spears, and he mopped up. Most of the spears got taken out heavy fire before they got to engage, but just the autarch and one spear annihilated his termie retinue and brother captain.
He may not draw fire or be super tough, but if you equip him properly and attach him to the right unit he can make all the difference.
I don't care for them.
Farseers have always acted as our "generals" and worked well. Creating a standard general-type to appease the few who didn't like the old fluff was unnecessary.
Gameplay -wise its fine, but I don't see the need for "super-exarchs". Besides, no matter how tactically brilliant you are you will still be an amateur when compared to someone who sees the future.
I can see where they may compliment some player's styles, and you can't judge on matters of taste, but for me I've not bothered to buy a model.

Personally I'm a big fan.
The obvious choice for an Autarch is the Laser Lance jetbike rider, but I find that a nice cheap one with a power sword and mandiblasters add's a nice bit of punch to my assault units and weighs in at less than 100pts
Couple this with the fact that 1/3 missions you play will see you relying on reserve rolls and they can be a nice investment to make sure you get that early game advantage during Dawn of War which can make all the difference.
They don't serve as a complete replacement for the Farseer but they definatly share appearance, and in larger games i'll take both.

You don’t technically need to hold anything in reserves for DAW they just move on in ur first turn.
But I can see their ability being useful if you field swooping hawks purely to drop their bombs every turn.
Personally I like the idea of autarch, but they just cant make it into my lists, farseer and avatar complement each other so well and can deal with basically any situation. I think autarchs are used for specific roles and that means they are tactically limited depending on what you give them, but that being said I certainly see how they could be the ace up your sleeve and turn the battle.
