My girlfriends first game is on friday, i'm a nid and AC player so the only real knowledge i have of eldar are how much indigestion i get after my genestealers seem to have when digesting guardians. So i turn to the experts of this forum, she will be playing friday against Tau and it's 500pts, she bought a battleforce and farseer with 3 warlocks. Was wondering what she should look out for and expect as well as what would help to ensure the survivayl of her craftworld.
Thanks alot guys!!
Most players don't realize it, but Eldar have what it takes to out-gun the Tau. But the day is usually won with superior mobility. Take EMLs (Eldar Missile Launchers), as they eat up Crisis Suits and Fire Warriors alike. Remember that your EMLs will have greater range than the Crisis suits will even with JSJ. Krak missiles insta-kill suits and Plasma missiles will pin down Fire Warriors. Concentration of fire is your best bet. Don't let each of your units get in a gunfight with each of your opponent's. Pool your shots together to ensure your take out a unit then move to the next. From the basics in the Battle Force box my list would be:
Farseer with Guide
Guardian Defenders-10 with EML platform
Dire Avengers-6 + Dire Avenger Exarch with Dire Sword/Shuriken Pistol & Bladestorm Exarch Power
Wave Serpent with TL EML and Spirit Stone (for Dire Avengers)
War Walker with two EMLs
This should come out to around 500pts you could even through a Singing Spear if you'd like. You should focus on taking out Crisis Suits and Railheads first. The Dire Avenger Exarch can eat up anything in the Tau list in HtH. Avoid the Kroot in assault as they are easier to take out with shooting. Don't let Fire Warriors use Fish of Fury.
Your Farseer, War Walker, and Guardians should make up a support by fire line that will allow your Serpent mounted Avengers get to grips with Fire Warriors and snag objectives.
I once fielded a wraithlord in a 1000-point game vs. Tau. By clever use of cover, he survived taking about half of the combined firepower, ending the game assaulting the last standing unit of Fire Warriors with one remaining wound in turn 6. Same game, I had a squad of Warp Spiders bog down his three Crisis Suits including his HQ for three full turns. In 500 pts, neither player fields a lot of units, so one real power choice like those can easily be the game winner right there.
With the stuff you say she has, I will hands-down recommend a bladestorm exarch for the Avengers combined with a guide and/or doom farseer in the serpent. That's half the allowance right there, but will be very worth it if she can get the perfect drop. Fiddling around with the list, I find that I can field that unit with a full squad of defenders (EML) and a dual-EML walker (which is awesome, I use it). In this example, the seer is pimped out with stones and RoWi, and the guardians get no (need no) warlock. Bonus points if her exarch uses dual Avenger SC.
