with the way that in a box of gaunts you get 8 termagaunts and 8 hormagaunts. i'm curious to what people are doing with the hormagaunts as they don't seem to be so popular.. are people sticking spine fists on the hormagaunts bodies?? or making the hormaguants up and not fielding them?
myself - i use the hormagaunts as they're meant to be.
I make all my termagaunt bodies into SpineGaunts and all my Hormagaunts into FleshGaunts.
All the Hormaguants I own are second hand off friends who have given/old them on to me, I've never used them in a game but then I love my shooty gaunts. So much damage in a small package!

I have 16 Hormagaunts that I rarely use. All the other Hormagaunt models have been given Spinefists and made into Spinegaunts.
Been thinking of converting my unfinished hormagaunts into spinegaunts too. I have 16 completed hormagaunts that just sit on my shelf. Which is a pitty because they used to rock in assaults.
The sole purpose I have for collecting Hormies is for an Endless Swarm. After I'm done making the swarm, all other gaunts go to the main body of the swarm, the termies and spinegaunts.
My buddy plays Tau, so they occasionally function bbetter than a speed bump. Shred Shred Shred!
Do not meddle in the affairs of Tyranids, for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup.
Hormagaunts are unpopular?
out of interest is this as a result of 5thed? they were good in 4thed and have had no nerf that I know of.
Is this as a result of the new rules - or have I just wandered into the anit hormagaunt thread?

the new rules in assault make them a bit harder to use and alot less effective. Swarm a single unit with hormagaunts but if you lose a round of combat you take a bunch of wounds with almost no chance of saving against them and even if you wipe out the other squad your left standing there with a giant 'shoot me' sign
"Ohm nom nom nom"
Yeah, hormagaunts got hit by the 5th edition changes to melee. Pretty much in every aspect of melee. With unengaged enemy models moving up before combat, that's more potential wounds coming in. Losing melee means more wounds coming in. Even winning melee and wiping the enemy means more wounds coming in.
It's kind of sad when spinegaunts crouching in the grass have more survivability than hormagaunts in their "element" of melee.
