Welcome to Librarium Online!
ok so here is the deal. of course i play tau and my friend plays eldar. we usually play on a 6 x 6 board (approximately). he usually like to put down alot of obstacles (dvd boxes...yes we are ghetto) and add forested areas around the sides. so I have worked him over a couple of times but now we are changing the board to 4 x 6, where the armies line up on the 6 ft. side (now there are only 4 feet between us at most). and of course he is goin to put down many a obstacles. how should i go about this. here is my army list: aun'shi ethereal, ova'sha, a firewarrior squad, 5 stealth suits, 2 broadsides, 4 crisis suits, 5 pathfinders, 6 with railrifles, kroot squad, a hammer head, and a devilfish. He usually uses baharoth, striking scorpions, a war walker, 2 dreadnoughts, firedragons, some exarchs sprinkled here and there, that falcon grav tank or whatever (for transporting his striking scoprions), and a jet bike. How should i arm them? how can i usethese obstacles (or change the type of obstacles) to my advantage? oh and one more thig. since i have enough, he usually lets me change my pathfinders to another squad of firewarriors. so again i ask what should i do???? thanks guys and i apologize for the novel.
use your broadsides to bring down the dreadnoght and grav tank, the hammer head submition rounds for troops. put aun'shi with your fire warriors and have kroot in front of them as a sheild, if you can infiltrate with your stealth squad. use your pathfinders to mark the grav tank and hit him with your broadsides so that the scorpions can't get in to close then pick on the dreads the same way. When all the vehicles and super strong units are down use your smart missle system on their smaller units. i'm guessing ova'sha is your shas'o or shas'el (nice name i call mine either Shas'o vior'la Dessi'Us or Shas'O/El Obi'Ken) Give him some drones and if you can attach him to a gun drone squadron of 8 (10 drones total) and use your crisis teams (teams of 2) and pick on his exarch or scorpions with them try to dance around them and take them out. Give the fire warriors photon gernades and bonding, they should concentrate on a particular unit. use the warriors and kroot together and concentrate fire on one of his troops or unit. Use stealth team to harrass his scorpion. Make sure your stealth team is 24 inches away at all times (move 6" shoot the minimum 18" fly back 6") beware his scorpions and wraithguards.
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
sorry ova'sha guy is really farsight......i spelled his name wrong hardcore (o'shovah)......other than him i only have three more crisis suits. thanks for the info though. what should i do about his platform weapons. last game he had two and he really picked away at one of my firewarrior squads. and last thing what about baharroth. that weapon where he can keep rolling till he misses is crazy. and regarding the pathfinders, should i use them as pathfinders or firewarriors. i konw we are not supposed to do that but he allows me too. thanks
if you are using o'shovah can you use the aun'shi because of the break away faction which says you cant use ethereal caste members which aun'shi is.

yeah so i played my friend tonight and didnt do to bad. got me a little worried when he took out my aunshi. oh and i noticed that rule and didnt use oshovah. but other than that i was left with a broadside a devilfish and 3 kroot. other than that it was a fun game. my pathfinders did an ok job taking out his jet bike thing. but after that nothing on their part. the crisis suit didnt do that much either. however the hammerhead is a real trooper....er vehicle. took out most of his army actually. took out his squad of fire dragons and then most of his swooping hawks. so if htere are any other recommendations, they are more than welcome. thanks fo ryour help.
One more recommendation: Use proper capitialization and punctuation, and proofread what you write. It'll save on typos and make it easier for people to understand you.
Oh, and yes, Hammerheads do kick but.
hey sorry for being hypocritical....but 333 thanks for not contributing anything to this thread. and i dont think its that hard to understand what i wrote. and thanks for stating the obvious that hammerheads kick butt. regardless of all that. do you guys find that pathfinders become sacrificial lambs. i noticed that nothing was there to protect them and although they did take out a fast vehicle their first turn everyone else jsut picked away at them until they were reduced to nothing.
First time poster here but avid forum ghost.
I saw this forum and thought it would be an appropriate one for me to start with as I just recently had a great battle with a friend of mine who likes to play Eldar.
Let me just start by saying that the Tau were victorious I made him concede in the 4th turn. The mission what a cleanse mission and we where playing 3rd Edition rules.
Both armies were 2000point Armies and we played on an Ash world. Okay now for some of the pointers of what I found most effective.
1. I had both a Hammerhead and Broadsides (2) in my army the hammerhead I deployed forward to push his units back as we all know the Eldar can move fast so putting a tank out the front was a good strategy to make some distance between me and his units. The other benefit of this was the Rail Gun on this instantly got his attention even though I didn't have first turn it distracted him into attacking and directing alot of his firepower at the tank. The rail gun was taken out but the SMS worked like a treat in later turns as he didn't see it as a threat without the railgun foolish mistake.
2. Stealth suits, and Pathfinder units with rail guns and markerlights can cause a heavy toll on unspecting troop carriers.
By third turn his army was severly depleted and by pure luck I had managed to keep stunning the crew and tank with his farseer council so they couldn't disembark and in the final shots of the 3rd turn I actually managed to make his Farseer council tranport fall off the side of the table due to drift. Can anyway say what a shame. From their it was just a matter of time and the half way through the 4th turn he conceded defeat.
I think during the entire battle I lost a total of about 10 troops to his decimated army entire units where lost I had only lost my pathfinder unit as a total unit loss.
