Today in a friendly match at my local store pitted my 1000 point army against a Space Marines menace. After rolling for pitched battle/ Annihilation mission, sadly i went second. Whereas my poor warrior squads fell beneath a hail of autocannon fire in the first round, my raiders successfully delivered my wyches and Archon. Though the wyches rolled horribly, my mighty Archon practically single-handedly (the succubus helped too!)wipe out a 10-man squad of SM and an 8-man Terminator squad and it's Sgt. My opponent wrongly focused on my Ravager instead of the transports to his dismay. Some of the onlookers were shocked, most never having seen a DE army in person, and quite a few challenges were made for next weekend.
Nice... he's only at str 4, even with combat drugs, so that's really impressive. The jetbike Archon + punisher combination is a little more dangerous, in my eyes.
I wouldn't rely on him to pull it off over and over, though he will do a ton of damage to whatever he hits.
1. I'm pretty sure (remember, I could very well be wrong.) that an Archon with a punisher and drugs (choose the +1 strength drug.) gives you strength 5.
2. Jetbike + punisher isn't legal. You can only have a 1 handed weapon, for the other hand must hold onto the bike. The only real option IMO is a Tormentor helmet (counts as a pistol.) and a power weapon. That way you get +1 attack and ignore armor saves, and use the +1 strength drug and re-roll to hit drug. Since statistically that drug does better than +1 attack I think.
Or at least thats what I think.
Read the FAQ, sir, two handed weapons are legit on jetbikes now. And thanks for the catch, I meant str 5, not 4.
There are a couple threads discussing the newfound awesomeness of punisher + jetbike archons, as well.
All hail the mighty archon (or you'll be sorry)!
Apart from anything else, the archon is Mr Entertainment. Whether he's chopping up entire squads or enemy ICs while laughing maniacally, or just taking his last wound from drug overload and carking it while the enemy looks on in bewilderment, he's like John Belushi with a power weapon.
There's also the (imagined) look on his face when his Shadowfield fails, and there's the look on your opponent's face when he injects himself with 12" charge and (with the help of a raider) attacks on turn 1.
Don't be too hard on the wyches, unless they have +1 attack or re-roll misses I would always recommend at least 2 power weapons in close combat against marines. So either wyches + lord or 2 squads of wyches for a 10 man marine squad. If you are going 1 on 1 then you leaving too much to chance.
As for the Archon, if you think he is good try an Archite that is high on vitae.

How to make the punisher Archon much more interesting is to give him the animus vitea gives you another +1 strength and +1 attack. This is absolutely lethal.
Actually the Animus Vitae provides +1 WS and +1 STR.
