Welcome to Librarium Online!
Right, I'm not much of a scrap builder, but what material should i make the main body of the kan and the arms and everything? I'm slightly worried if I make some, they will turn out really bad.
I'll Admit i'm not good when working with Scratch built models built from Card, i'm alright when working with greenstuff, but when customizing ANYTHING it helps to have a lot of extra bitz on hand.
When making something from scractch you could take the Cheap way out... Take a lil time and get some adverage-good results, or fix up something really cool in rare results. Now the problem with wanting something awsome is if your not the best at it, or absent minded (ie: Me), you end up going overboard and probibly used more than you intended too on the model and payed more, but you usually end up with alota extra bitz.
(Skip this part if you just want Kan advice)
For example, i took my old old OLD looted leman russ, a new trukk that i'm just not gonna use, couple extra grots, extra orks, spare Nob Banner/boss/polebitz, and even some Orc spears from Fantasy, and i have my Looted Wagon, given i've been really busy recently and its not yet done, but i have it scoped out in my head on what i want it too look like. That might be going overboard a bit in terms of keeping it cheap, but i think my Boomgun deserves it.
If your wanting Cheap CHEAP kanz, just take some Barrels from the terrain area of GW(try to just get some off a friend...GW will scalp you for em) take a few grotz you have them Laying around, and depending on what guns you want on your Kanz, customize some from Ork boy weapons, and after that you just need some legs, which don't even ahve to be legs, If you bought the Ork Battleforce, you could use the 6 Tires from the Trukk!! and bam, the Kan moves, hell you could take 2 extra grots and try to make it look like they carry the Kan right in to battle.
If you want to make exotic awsome looking Kanz i recommend looking around the internet and look at some good models, try to spark a idea, thats what i did with my Wagon.
I hope this helped

Forgot too mention, if you DO have some grots laying around, you could cut little slits in the barrels, trim them down and glue them inside the barrels (assuming you haven't already closed them) and then you get the Kan Pilots peeking threw =)
Cold blooded's advice is very true, and I also heard of a person using soda cans as the bodies of HUGE killa kans, but I'm not sure how your opponent will feel about that. ^_^
Look for the terrain sets that come in bags (you could probably look it up) that have 3 barrels in them, or just look for barrels from any terrain set (but not the barrels from vehicles, they're way too small). Then cut some legs and an arm out of sprue. I'd use the curved corners as legs and a random 'fork' like piece of sprue as the arm with the dread weapon. Then glue a gun right to the side of the barrel, a few bits to make the arm look more dangerous, and then any orky decorations you like.
Good luck, and be sure to have fun with it!
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Well, talking about soda cans, I think at the local supermarket they do like small versions of Coca-cola cans which I could use, and are perfect size. Ill make legs and stuff ready for when I move onto 1500 points. (6 Kans, 10 Lootas, 20 more Boyz)
6 Kans with Kustom Mega blasters is how much?
10 Lootas is 150
20 Boyz with Nob and pk, and bosspole is 210 points????
Ooo I have some IG spares including a rocket launcher I could snazz up for a killa kan
I'll look around and tell you what I find.
Ok, I have made 1 Power Klaw for a killa kan, but there is 1 problem. 1 big problem. I used a Rhino top hatch because it was the least detailed bit of plastic I could find, and built a bosspole and as I said before, 1 Power Klaw. Any suggestions on what materials I could use for other weapons for killa kans? If not, any weapons that would be suitable make from random bitz.
The best thing would be somone putting up a picture of a scratch built killa kan.

Sorry for the quality I haven't painted them yet.
These were made with a broom handle, sprue, old warbiker tracks, some eldar weapons and general gubbinz.
They are about the same size as an official one, took about 5 hours to build 9 and I still have most of the broom handle. There are 3 variants, walking on feet made from more broom handle, tracks fully under the kan body and tracks on the sides of the kan body. Chain weapons were made by strapping 2 chainsword arms from orks together.
Cost: Broomhandle = $1, my bitz box = free

they look more like Foam, but are pretty good. I'm thinking of making 6 instead of paying £72 for the proper ones.
Cheers for the pics and the help, I'll get right on making some.
Red ones goes faster - it's true :)Ork Freebooter Crusaders!3/0/1
They indeed look fantastic, i only have the one retail KK for the moment, i'll have to scratch built 2 more for my future games
If you ever finish them, could you post some more pictures please ?
