    Farseer Powers and Reserve

    All,

I have a rules query which I'm hoping some of you may have the answer to. In the new 5th edition rules, I'm seeing a lot more use of reserves, and quite often my Farseer is coming in from reserve. My question is - bearing in mind that some psychic powers ie Doom, Guide, Fortune, are used at the start of the turn (ie before the movement phase), and models are moved onto the battlefield in the movement phase, does this mean that Farseers coming on from reserve cannot use those powers in that turn, because they were not on the battlefield when the powers should be used?

Strictly by the rules as written, this would seem to be the case - but this seems to me to be a situation where the RAW fall down against the intention of how models should be used coming from reserve. After all, models coming on from reserve can do everything else as normal on that turn - move, run, shoot, assault etc - it's just a quirk of how the rules are written that mean that certain psychic powers can't be used. I would therefore suggest that the Farseer should be able to use those powers, but from the point of entry to the battlefield ie wherever they choose to come in from reserve.

Has anyone come across this issue, or had any clarification on the rules from GW?

    Thanks.

Personally I don’t think we can argue this.

Your Farseer isn’t on the table so its powers can’t be used, when it does show up shooting powers are still good though so at least that’s something.

There is nothing about this in the FAQ and the rules clearly show its not allowed.

It would be nice, but until the move phase the model isn’t even in the game so I don’t see how it could affect it before then.

Yeah unfortunately a farseer can not use any of his powers. I cant think of anywhere that would support us being to able to cast when the farseer is not on the field yet. In games if I am allowed one HQ to be placed it will always be my farseer to make better use of him. Otherwise hope he comes out quickly. I have played games in 4th where he didnt show up unitl turn 4 or five and it does suck we just have to plan for our lynch pin model coming on the board.
