Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well, my 11 burna boyz are in a looted wagon with a skorcha and big shoota. This is to keep up with my trukk boyz, cause its a speed freaks list! Also, my warboss (power Klaw, cybork body, 'eavy armour, slugga) will join them.
I don't know if I should add some meks with KMBs or slugga and choppa combo, just to keep the wagon going. I also have a number of trukks, buggies and another wagon.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Father Mulcahy: Just as the Lord said to Noah, "Everything in pairs."
Pierce Hawkeye: Of course the Lord was holding three aces at the time.
If you're putting the burnas in a vehicle, the mek is a nice safety for doing some quick repairs, but it's not too often that your opponent will get the perfect level of damage that you can just repair it.
That being said, KMBs are incredibly good weapons.
I think the problem is less 'whether to take Meks w/your Burnas' and more 'you oughta take some Lootas with those Meks.' =P
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
Yeah, burnas are a little sad in 5th edition. We just had a topic on this, and it's not that burnas are bad (as long as they have a transport) per se, but there are units just as good at killing large infantry units (boyz, meganobz) that also count as troops. With 5th edition, you want units that count as troops, whenever possible. Lootas provide long range fire, don't need a transport, and work as anti-armor. They're a much better choice in most situations, and it isn't that hard to convert a burna into a loota (they already have a backpack and big gun) so you can turn a loota/burna set and 4 extra boyz into 8 lootas and a mek.
If you like burnas than use them, but yes, I'd include 2 meks with kustom mega blastas. They can repair the transport you're inside, and they allow you to hunt tanks and terminators during the turns you're not within burna range.
I never feel bad about including them because even if you wind up getting the burnas into close combat without shooting, you usually take 1-2 casualties before the burnas strike, so you can just take the meks off as the first casualties. ^_^
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Well upgrading the Mek is free, and he comes with the KMB anyway, so having one or two to repair your looted wagon is definetly worth it. Unlike the other unit that can take meks (lootas) the rokkit and the big shoota don't really have a niche here. When your moving the lootas into a better firing position, you can unleash big shoota fire. And the rokkits add plenty of midrange fire power.
However, the lootas are almost always going to assault and you'll want as many power weapon attacks as you can put in there. Since they almost always have transport, they'll end up closer to the target and will get less of an oppertunity to shoot. Maybe if the burnas footslog it... But who does that? And the rokkits are a point sink as burnas will cut through MEQ just fine and they're going to be assaulting infantry anyway. (can only assualt what they shoot at.)
Take the mek for repairing the wagon if need be, and treat the KMB as a nice bonus. Awesome if it hits, but just the icing on the cake. If you want KMB action, get some Killa Kanz!
