Other than the pricey autarch+shining spears combo, what is a good squad/unit to use to take on a squad of terminators? I'm looking for multiple options. Preferably something cheaper than the above.
Cheap and Ap2 doesnt really exist so your going to be looking for quantity over quality, Doom them, Bladestorm them with a guided squad of dire avengers and your almost certain to take some down.
Another idea is to doom them then charge with a squad of 10 banshees, they will most likely out number and certainly fight first, re rolling to wounds will see termis taking a lot of 5+ inv saves.
The other thing I can think of would be three war walkers with two scatterlasers each for quantity over quality, just making them take mass saves will see a few fall, or specialise your war walkers, make them a bit more expensive and give them all starcannons, that will certainly cause havoc to termis.
"Playing it safe is the most popular way to fail." - Elliott Smith.
I had this problem ...but with regular Dark Angels and through a trial and error response I got some war walkers.
Warwalker with 2 Starcannons - 80pts. Now times that by 3 ....it's 240 points.
12 shots of S6 AP2 goodness! OK ...it's not exactly cheap ...but my god they will dominate!
If you guide them (I think that's the farseer power that makes your eldar less cack-handed - so you reroll the misses) then it really is a thing of beauty. I took out a whole squad of Terminator armoured wolfguard in one round of shooting - it changed my opponents BattlePlan to say the least
Not cheap ..but then again ...neither are terminators
CutYourRibbon has pretty much covered it, but if you want something a little more interesting:
A big squad of guardians with an avatar nearby (not in cc with termies) will bog the squad down for a long time as they won't break and he won't be able to inflict too many wounds (depending on the size of the squad and whether they are CC terms). Throw in a warlock with and with enhance to keep the edge on the guardians combat skills and his witchblade will give him a chance to hit back.
If you get the charge on him then I suspect this unit will hold them up for 3+ turns which is a long time for his elites to spend killing you cheap unit.
In fact I've just run the stats and with 20 Storm Gs on the charge you will get 60 attacks and with warlock giving enhance you are going to over run a squad of 5 termies in 5 turns and they should only account for less then half of the SGs. Even with the 2+ save he's only got to be unlucky 5 times and they're gone with the weight of attacks the odds are in your favour
Termies want to be able to munch whatever they see and move on to the next target quickly, even if you don't win it'll hold him up for a while
Harlies with kisses can throw out both numerous attacks enough to make them fail a few 2+ saves. plus a good 3 or 4 rending attacks. they will also get their own 5+ invunerable save against the likely term's power weapons. plus with fusion pistols they can take out one or two on the shot before an assault.
What about a wraith cannon battery?
Wraithlord with a star cannon can kill some as he advances and put the hurt on as well in cc being monsterous.
Another tact not mentioned is combining fire prism beams for a high str, low ap large blast template.
None of these options are cheap though. Generally i think the best bang for your buck is banshee's. With doom it's ideal, but even used alone 10 banshee's vs 5 termies will generally win that combat.
Pathfinders (though unreliable) can usually take out a termie or two a turn and are safe with a 2+ cover save at 120 points.
fire dragons work great as well, but can be shot and counter charged easily. I know you don't want to hear it but honestly the best unit for the job is your pricey autarch and spears. 18ish attacks 2s and 3s to hit. 2s to wound, and 5+ save for termies...it should get all 5 of em.
Hell, even Eldrald could kill a termie squad solo. fortuning himself, dooming them, he's geting 2 to wound rerolled and rerolling his own 3+ invunerable save.
The point is you have the options a plenty.. but eldar aren't cheap. sure you can use storm guardians but why sacrifice your eldar housewives? It's those kinda tactics that are causing the eldar to be an endangered species.
I think badexample was right the first time: Harlequins.
There isn't much use in wasting points just to take out a termie squad.
Harlequins can pretty much deal with anything so would make dog food of Terminators, as well anything else that might cross their paths!
