Welcome to Librarium Online!
I recall the discussion a few weeks ago about flamers and XV8s. The general consensus I got from that topic was that flamers aren't so hot since using them will likely lead to the death of your Crisis Suit. And that inspired this commander build:
I sent this brave commander into battle the other day and was quite pleased with his performance. My Ork opponent was shocked when a Crisis Suit charged toward his mob of boys laying down withering blasts of heat, jumping into battle, and managing to escape before his next shooting phase to lay down more burning fire.
I know it is unconventional and a bit expensive. But this commander build is quite survivable and capable of putting pressure on enemy formations that is not normally expected from the Tau. I especially like ignoring that pesky cover.
The only downside I can see is the waste of the 5 BS. I will continue to test this build in games to come.
I tried this with the CIB. The exact loadout was;
Expensive but OK in HtH. I just threw him at Heavy Support Squads and he did fine, but fails a bit without IC hiding anymore. Also CIB kinda sucks, even with BS 5 (I think 'lamers may be better for this).
TAU PLAYER - GREY KNIGHTS PLAYER - WOOD ELVES PLAYER (kind of)
"Grey Knight terminators aren't 'good.' THEY'RE F****N AWESOME!!"
Also, you can field him without the VRT and instead put the Air Bursting Fragmentation projector on him. The shooting will do considerably more damage, and then he can either charge or not depending on the situation. This build will probably be more well-rounded, but perhaps less survivable if he gets caught.
Just some thoughts really...
