I've just started reading the rules on Tau and was wondering what the difference between the firewarriors carabin and rifle is ?

Pulse Rifles has a range of 30 inches.
Pulse Carbines has a range of 18 inches and can cause pinning.
They both have strength 5 AP 5.

Also, the Rifles function as Rapid Fire while Carbines are Assault 1.

Not to mention that up to half of your firewarrior squads may be equipped with pulse carbines at no additional point costs.

Plus all your drones use pulse carbines unless you use heavy drones.

Yeah but if you equip half of them with carbines they need to get closer to the enemy to be effective and against unpinable opponents they really can mess you up.

exactly why you wouldnt give those guys carbines.

I would imagine they'd be great against orks

nah as long as orks are 12 or higher in number there practicly fearless. so it wouldn't be too useful.

Pulse rifles are all around the best weapon to use for a static unit pretty much. If you expect your unit to move though or be in a devilfish then carbines come in handy giving a little more range when you get off the transport or move up.

You could just take a squad of Gun Drones, since they can move 6" fire cause a pinning test and then retreat 6" if they fail to pin them, if they do then you just fire everything at the pinned down enemy till they are no more.

I dont really like my Fire Warriors with Carbines but since Gun Drones come with them and they are twin linked you may aswell use theirs. And you get Gun Drones with just about everything you buy if not they are about £1.50 for a sprue my mail order.
