    Seekers on Piranhas in 5th.

I did a quick search but couldn't quite see much on the subject.

I played my first game of 5th the other day, and came across the rule 'Optional Weapons' on p58 in the rule book. Basically, the rule prevented me from moving 24" and firing my seekers.

Now, the confusing thing is, the codex states that the seekers are not fired by the crew of any vehicle they are on.

Now, I went with the rule book in this instance for easy flow of the game, but am I correct in thinking the codex overwrites this Optional weapons rule?

    Cheers,
    Toastee.

I don't have my rulebook on me at the moment, but I know for the last edition the codex's overrode the rulebook for some things.

IIRC you can only get 24" if you have a road infront of you, but since it is someone else firing the weapon, and the vehicle is just the host, then it shouldn't prevent you from firing the seeker missile no matter how far you move.

I agree with PathOfSkulls; I know seekers could be fired while the vehicle was shaken, so I don't see why turboboosting should be different.

The Seekers respond to a Markerlight call; they can always be fired regardless of the state or performance of the vehicle (unless it has of course been destroyed)!

Yep, eiglepulper is right. The rulebook is really referring to things like hunter killer missiles, which the tank has to voluntarily fire itself (correct me if I'm wrong here). The codex is pretty clear that the vehicle is essentially on autopilot with regards to seeker missiles, and hence the crew can be occupied with whatever while these things fire.

The "old" tactic of racing a unit of Piranhas kitted out with two Seekers each at full tilt up one side of the table while Markerlighting a stack of targets on the opposite side of the battlefield was and remains a favourite "nasty surprise".

Though it has to be said that Piranhas are no where near as good as they used to be in 4th (not that they were much cop then ). I for one would think very long and hard about just what it is you are going to be sacrificing to take two or three Piranhas with Seekers; there are many more much more useful things to take in the Tau list and other vehicles that can take Seekers (maybe not so fast but still better options overall).

As to the subject in hand, it does not matter if the vehicle moved, is immobalised, stunned, shaken, has no other weapons etc etc, as long as an ML token is available and the vehicle is still on the field (obviously not destroyed or wrecked) its Seekers can be called and launched.

Indeed so. My comment was merely a reminder of what was possible with such units. However, I think I may have strayed slightly OT by mentioning it so I shall desist!

Aye, I wouldn't want the topic to become one on how useful Piranhas may or may not be.... I think eveyone in this forum knows all about that. xD
That and we aren't due a hardcore piranha topic for quite some time. *grin*

Once again, thanks all for clearing that up.
