Big Mek (KFF)
Big Mek (SAG)
Points for points, which HQ do you think is the most valuable in out book? My vote goes to the KFF Big Mek, he's cheap for what he does and can really be the glue that holds a list together - though, Biker Warboss was a close second for the ability to count Nobz as troops and general badassery.
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
I agree that the Big Mek with KFF is the best HQ for the Orks since he is very valuable. The cover save that he provides may be low but it does the job. I've had many opponents complain about the KFF.

Megaboss. He can duel down things like carnifexes which boyz stuggle with (they'll do it but their fearless nature will really hurt the squad).. Not to mention anything short of a power weapon will simply richochet off him and with T5 marines will struggle to inflict wounds.
i have to say ghazgkul, because i plan on fielding alot of boys in my army, and the prophet of the waaaaagh rule is worth its weight in gold, especialy given that on the turn that is activated he gets a 2+ invulnerable save, combined with already high toughness, means that if hes in combat, he is all but unbeatable that turn, and will most likely rip apart the squad he is asaulting, even if it were a comand squad.
however, i cant see this poll as 'fair'. if it were doing comparisons on warbosses then it would be ok, but big meks and warbosses each bring their own uniqueness to the table. kff is a useful asset, but in terms of combat, a big mek canot match up to a warboss. Shooting on the other hand, a warboss cannot match up to a mek with a SAG.
personaly i plan on taking ghazgkul and a kff mek in the long run, but for just starting out, il be taking a cybork warboss

Hive Fleet Penance - 3500 Points - 4/1/0
Waaaaaaagh Skagtrot (40k Orks) - In Progress
Dinhar Whitestar's Dragon Host (H.E) - 2000 Points
As a player with a leaning toward kult of speed, I had to choose between Wazzdakka and a Biker warboss. I chose the warboss because he is much more cost effective than Wazzdakka.
Pound for pound, point for point, you can't ask for a better HQ than the big mek w/kustom force field.
For 85 points, you can give most of your army a 5+ cover save, regardless of circumstances, even against barrage/guess weapons. The big mek w/KFF has been the most valuable HQ in my Ork army, by far.
Second place would be a tie between a Warboss on a bike and a Warboss in mega armor, and third place would go to the Mad Doc. Yeah, I love the Mad Doc, but even I'll admit he only works in larger armies (2000+ points).

I'll go for mega armored warboss. I don't use special characters, and that guy is simply awesome to get rid of entire units, or even better, vehicles. I generally refrain from using him vs. dreadnoughts or MC that would instant-death him, leaving those to the hidden nob PK in my boyz units, and send him after regular infantry and any non-walker vehicles.
In 5th ed., I've found that KFF lost a lot of efficiency, as cover saves are so numerous, and grotz can provide them too . I used a KFF all the time in 4th, but it is now replaced by a SAG when I have enough pts.

I'd have to say that I generally use a regular Warboss with not a lot of nifty gear outside the Klaw and Twin Shoota, and possibly the upgrade of Cybork Armor. Basic, fun, easy, and not a lot of tears are spread when they kill one boss to face a Big Mek with his SAG and start to really worry. I mean, seriously...When they see a Big Mek with a crazy gun they think "Kill it first!" Only to find the Warboss they neglected led a nice clump of Shoota Boyz complete with Rokkits.
Big Mek with Lootas to draw attention, and Warboss and Boyz to actually mess them up. Sorta a cheap trick but what do you expect from Orks?! A nice easy going game?! We are not just cannon fodder.
We are also green.

I don't get the fondness for the regular Warboss. By time you buy him a PK and 'Eavy Armor you're just 10pts. short of a Mega Armored Warboss, so that 10pts. is buying you a 2+ save and making your Shoota twin-linked. The only drawback is slow and purposeful, but that should only matter if you're using him on foot. Since taking a Warboss means a Nob squad counts as troops, I can't see any reason to run the Warboss on foot (he should be up in a trukk/battlewagon with the Nobz, getting Feel no Pain and helping take objectives). Are that many ppl really running him on foot?
