Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm future planning for my Apocolypse army: Anyone tried Farseer + 10 Warlocks all on jetbikes?
Tricked out with about 50% singing spears, 1 enhance the rest destructors, doom, fortune and guide and you have a very handy unit indeed. It weighs in at about 750pts though so I could only see this in very large scale games.
Interested if anyone has used this and what the effects were.
Nope havnt done it yet but I have thought about it in smaller size so it didnt take up so many points. It would definetely have to be in larger games, I wonder if they could take down a titan with that many str 9 attacks.
It can take a lot of punishment with fortune and their 3+/4+, but they also don't deal nearly enough damage to warrant their price tag. Very cool in theme, theory, and pretty fun for friendly games, but trust me when I say I speak from experience; they aren't too competitive. But sometimes you just want to put all your eggs in one basket...
If you really want to do it don't forget embolden for those leadership test rerolls (like a psychic test). Try a unit of 5 Warlocks and a Farseer first, you get the same basic thing, but at a cheaper price. Embolden (with spear), Enhance(with spear), and 3 destructors; and a Farseer with only two powers: fortune, and eldritch storm (you don't need guide for flame templates, and you always wound on 2+ so doom is less useful). The problem really is that they don't cut through armor saves, but you should be able to do enough damage to hordes and tanks (don't forget eldritch storm spins tanks around so those spears can hit rear armor). The unit comes in at 430 points, which is a little more reasonable for a normal game.
Elderitch Storm is not quite as needed as it used to be unfortunately as when you get into close combat you attack at the rear armour anyways but if you can flip it before you throw the spears it might not be too bad. I would almost say though to save points drop the E Storm and spirit stones and just go with Fortune for the bike squad.
Well then take mind war. with the mobility of the biker squad and that they'll probably be horde hunting too. Chances are some sergents or other leader type will be in those hordes. I like eldritch storm becuase of the chance to pin. If i pin them I don't even have to assault, but can sit there 6" away and destructor a second turn. This is abit circumstancial though as ork mobs will never pin while fearless, and will run like everything else if they aren't. Only MEQ will survive an initial burst and possibly need pinning.
I have run this unit before (convered a windrider host into it.) I like it a lot and I must say that with that many heavy flamers you get some nice killiness. I have to say I agree with the weapon loadouts the other have suggested. I would also ad though that a guidefarseer is nice because it lets you reroll singing spears and also reroll wounds on those destructors

Lots of useful feedback, thanks folks.
@Veahirin exactly why I had guide - with a lot of singing spears you want to be sure that they are going to hit what you throw them at.
I find them effective with fortune, certainly. But building said unit is not going to be cheap...
