Hello guys, i have decided to stop playign orks and start up the Tyranids! haha so i m very excited because i love the look of the models and all. As of right now i am considering starting my force with the assault brood which comes with the following..
seems like a good buy to me?
I already have a few random things including
I know for sure i will be playing alot of Eldar and Witch Hunters along with a little chaos space Marines. so here is my main question! where do i start.. is there anythign else i should for sure buy
I would really appreciate any suggestions or opinions.
Well about the best way to lead a Tyranid army is with a Hive Tyrant. Broodlords work pretty solidly as well they do a nasty number in combat. Zoanthropes make a decent synapes/firepower base. Warriors are only effective against infantry but are very flexible for shooty/assault.
That box set is a really good deal. Figure out if you want to go shooty nids or the confusingly less effective combat nids.
You have a really strong base to work with. That boxed set and a Tyrant should keep you busy for a nice long time.
Id suggest getting a unit of biovores. Against most armies they are a so so unit, but against eldar they rock, especially against war walkers.
Get plenty of rending, so genestealers and raveners. These are good for taking down wraithlords, walkers, pretty much anything!
Eldar are great in close combat, especially banshees and harlequins, and they have high I. Take gargoyles! Dont bother with hormagaunts, gargoyles are so much better as they strike with bio plasma at I8.
Finally, take lots of spine gaunts. They are cheap and nasty but in huge numbers they can be great.
Ok so here is what i got so far...
Tyrant - 111
-2x Twin Linked Devourers
3 warriors - 86
-1 Barbed Strangler
6 Genestealers – 102
10 Spinegaunts – 50
10 Spinegaunts - 50
10 Spinegaunts - 50
15 Gargoyles - 180
3 Raveners -138
-Scything Talons and rending claws
So that is 767 points i would liek to add 2? Biovores but which kind of mine should i choose for anti eldar i also want to get atleast one fex in there. Im an ork player originally so i am used to fielding things in huge mobs is that how nids work or am i safe to keep the units some what smaller.
I havent really bought anything yet so feel free to offer suggestions on changes or alteratons..

A few alterations to the above comments. Ive always seen the kill points issue from spore mines applying to deep striking mines only. The biovore ones dont count as your not paying for every single mine you fire, It would be crazy to assaign each mine a kill point! Might be wrong but thats how I play it. Also you dont need a fex. They are great, but against eldar will die pretty quick.
Dont bother with extended carapace on your stealers, the eldar weapons will punch through EC. Stay in cover!
Mixing ranged with cc weapons is usually a no no, however warriors can only fire one weapon a turn anyway so youve done the right thing.
The other stuff is good advice so i wont repeat it.
Your right to play like orks, more models on the table is usually better than a few models with lots of accessories.
You should think about increasing the number of Zoanthropes you have to three. Zoanthropes work well in groups as they can combine the effects of psychic scream and mess people up. Keep them near a Hive tyrant and the large LD penalty on enemy troops can make assaulting a Hive tyrant very hard because of the horror. You can also spread them out with synapse creature and use them to control all your critters. And because they must be targeted individually they are very hard to kill off quickly. Either way they should get warpblast as it is quite powerful.
Also if you want more I would suggest you get them sooner rather than later as the price of metal models is going up soon.
