Hello everyone, I'm currently a marine player and I have been for a couple of years now and am starting a necron army. I currently have 24 warriors, 2 Destroyers, and 1 necron lord. If you guys could tell me where I should expand on this and create a couple of army lists you think would work then thanks. I really like the idea of a warrior phalanx army with maybe multiple monoliths. Or a Destroyer heavy army, but I always want to take a monolith.
The monolith is a lot of fun. It scares people, teleports things out of danger, and even if it gets immobilized it just becomes a giant hunk of terrain that can shoot things.
I wouldn't take more than one, though. Never tried it, but most players who have tell me it's a waste of points. In the wake of 5th edition, I say warriors, warriors, warriors! Get another box of them.
Also, what did you do with the scarabs? A squad of them can really slow down your opponent's advance.
Your destroyers are good, but you need more of them. If you can get four more, make two squads of three. That will pop transports, whittle down mobs, and even scare some big stuff. I personally run one squad of five, which works well, too, but it's a tad more vulnerable.
Beyond that, it's kind of a question of what you WANT to do. Do you want to try to boost cc ability? Get a few units of flayed ones, a few Tomb Spyders, maybe bring in the Nightbringer to help. Shooty? Add some heavy destroyers, and you can never go wrong with the "flying circus" of a squad of immortals + lord with Veil of Darkness. Wanna scare them to death? Get the Deceiver, a unit of pariahs and/or flayed ones.
Those are some quick-and-dirty descriptions of common builds. Which appeals to you?
I agree with above, destroyers and monoliths are awsome. If you're looking to win those units are devastating in force!
However, I like to mix things up, since I just play friendly games and if you're looking at immortals you might consider the immortal conversion from a normal warrior (it's on the forums around here somewhere, think in the modelling section). Usually you get 6 immortals and 6 flayed ones from the conversion, but I bought flayer bits from ebay and completed 12 immortals from ONE box of warriors. That's $120 worth of models for around $30 (ish). You could also buy the 'original' warriors and they look unique enough to pose as immortals as well (just not my style).
