Quite simply, I have a bunch of 10 nobs from black reach and REALLY want flash gits made from them, but I don't think gits are worth the cost, they look fantastic, and perform all the functions of nobs but they need at least the assault2 upgrade before being anything to worry about, thus turning a simple 10 man squad into 300 points like that *click*
nobs, however they are the same price when you factor in the heavy armour, and they do get the power klaw, I'm just scared of making the wrong decision.
For the record, the rest of my list so far is still very elitist, with small squads of selected troops and 2 medium sized boy squads with a looted wagon as the main support.
So what can you guys suggest I do? I REALLY want to make flash gits (I have tons of ideas) but I want a practical use from my nobs rather than a massive point sink.
I don't know if this helps, but I"m planning on converting my black reach nobs into kommandos. Maybe not as fun as flash gitz, but still will be a fun project.
Well gits work best cos they have nob stats, kommandos might be a bit of a stretch, if you didn't want the nobs that badly, I'd convert them all into special characters, one for zaggstruk, one for that sneaky kommando git, stuff like that, a big mek or two. you know the deal.
I used the black reach nobz to turn my regular warbikes into respectable nob bikers. They could also work very well as kommandos, but I wouldn't use flash gitz. Not only don't they really look the part (they'd need a lot of conversion), but flash gitz are unfortunately, worthless.
There's been a few topics about it, but to sum up: flash gitz are not worth the points, no matter how you play them. They need a transport in order to really be effective, and although they have the stats of nobz, their lack of powerklaws keeps them from being effective in close combat. What you end up with is a really expensive unit that isn't particularly good at anything. Even the low AP doesn't get them as many kills against marines as massed shots from lootas and shoota boyz would.
The only thing possibly worth doing is using Captain Badrukk, who is worth his points, in a very small unit and a looted wagon. Basically it'd be badrukk, a painboy, a single flash gitz with cybork and the +1 strength and +1 shot upgrades, and a looted wagon with a kannon. All said and done it'd cost 265 points, and although it wouldn't be that durable, it'd be cost effective, and a good distraction to keep the pressure off your other units.
Of course this doesn't really help you with the black reach nobz. I'd personally use them either as nobz, nob bikers, or kommandos. Those seem like the best ideas to me.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Yeah this is what disappoints me so much! I was at work thinking , damn it would be a good idea to make them into gits, they only cost like 15 points each! then I get home and read they are frigging a whopping 25 each, or at least something in that area, its just too much I think.
But I've also read that for points/cost wise, nobs are not really that much better than sluggas with all things considered, so as scary as a squad of them is, I'd probably prefer to just have more boys Or swap the nobs for deffcoptas
I ended up with 12 total nobz from blackreach (between trading, and the white dwarf mag).. and took 5 of them and added tons of armor-type gubbinz from various trukks and boyz boxes to make them into Meganobz. The rest I'm really not using (yet).
To your original question - flash gits are not as good as they seem on paper. If you're going to do anything, keep them as nobz.

Gitz are not very effective, but that won't stop ==Me== from fielding them on occasion. It's a fun unit to use and lots of interesting conversion opportunities come up with them.
I say go for it. At the very worst, you'll have a really good looking unit of models that will make you the envy of every Ork player around.

Fair point there ME, as useless as they might be, they could be the winning unit of the game you never know.
I had a group of sluggas once take out all but 2 khorne berzerkers with just slugga shots with some super lucky dice. It can happen, and yeah the gits would look kick ass! Now I just have to find the parts to make them.
I'd only bother making them into gitz if you really, really, REALLY want them right now. If you don't, but would like them down the road, wait til January when there's going to be a veritable orkasm of models released, including a 5 man plastic nob box that comes with every weapon option imaginable, and conversion bits to make them flash gitz (gogo unintentional rhyming). Snikrott, Badrukk, and Zagstruk are all supposed to get metal models at that time as well, and from what I've heard, Snikrott is a monster. So I'd also hold off on those conversion ideas as well, unless of course you love to convert and just want an excuse to do it.
I was thinking it would be cool to make a snikkrot as my kommandos right now need a leader and all the extra nob bodies lying around could be perfect.
I love everything about the flash gits except their massive cost for their usefulness
I may just turn them into gits after all, purely to make my ego happy.
