Right I know Tau can be deadly against Tyranids and Orks and Necrons and Imperial Guard but what about the other more popular armies. They have a BS of 3 why, if your lucky enough to roll lots of 4+'s and are able to wound space marines and such like (which is failry easy to do) they still have a nice easy save of 3+. So im wondering why werent Tau given a better ballistic skill? Maybe some of you will say because they only really fight Nids and Orks and dont need it but think about the Tau map, We are surrounded by Space Marines and we are about to make our empire bigger which means starting a war with the space marines surrounding us...so why arn't they better at taking them out. You dont start a war with someone you know who can wipe you out its not really working towards a greater good. If not making them a little more accurate at least make them a little stronger or am i the only who finds it hard to beat any space marines. (which at local GW store is most, ive seen one Tau player, one Nid player and one Necron player, so im normally against space marines and chaos)

Tau were not "designed" to kill anything. They are just another race, like humans or eldar. You talk about them like they are genetically engineered or something. If they don't have BS3 blame it on evolution.Their training, as discribed in the "Fluff" bit of the codex is comparable to Guard, so why would their BS be any higher.

Think of Tau as normal guy, not to different from humans. They have the same hopes, dreams and aspirations as your average person, ie, to fight for what they love, to survive long enough to retire, settle down and enjoy life.

Having been a guard player for many years before being persuaded to serve the greater good i can asure you their is nothing sub-normal about BS 3. It's normal. BS-4 is the reserve of the likes of eldar who spend centuries honing their skill and genetically modified Space marines. They are "Super-normal" if you like. If every alien who ever invented a gun had BS 4 it would cheapen the likes of space marines.

How could the empire have ever survived for milenia if it's guardsmen were so inferior to the other races.

Rant over, for now. (Sorry to get heavy on you)

The imperium survives because it has lots and lots of guardsmen and the elite warriors of the space marines.
Tau were designed to kill everything and everyone.

Tau can take it to the marines pretty good. It just takes the right weapons, and the right positions.

Tau can take it to any space amrine squad. A team of crisis suits like a HQ can be boffed up with a Shaso to have twin linked plasma weapons and fusion guns. When their within 12" they can practically wipe out an entire squad. 6 plasma shots and 3 fusion gun shots will take down lots of everything and then if you have a squad or two of firewarriors unload into them theyll be hurting allowing you to move onto another squad of tin can troops.

Hitler didn't know that most of the world would turn on him and that his allies like Italy, Romania, and the likes really had sub-standard troops compaired to the German Army. (Sorry the rantings of a BA of History with a spec in WWII/ Nazi Germany) But the Tau do know the whole galaxy is against them. But all the crying about BS3 is all pointless. Our weapons have a longer reach then any other, and if I'm not mistaken, are more powerful. We had to trade something for this, so no BS4. But making an elite unit with BS4 would be nice. Maybe a Tau version of the Stormtroopers. Commandos are nice in any army.

It is very strange that the better Tau troops have increased close combat skills, while the codex definitly says that it is disapproved to get into CC.

IMHO every Tau should have CC of 2 (except Commander maybe) and the elites should have BS 4

IMHO, I think the BS3 was made to balance out the ST5 pulse rifle. The gun affords 3+ wounds, unlike your basic bolter which affords 4+ wounds. Its another GW tactic of keeping things FAIR. SM's hit more often but wound less. Tau hit less often but wound more.
