Welcome to Librarium Online!
As mentioned in other threads, my regular playing partner has a Chaos Daemons army. When he first got them I murdered him with the Eldar. However, he's now starting to get the hanf of them and i'm finding it harder and harder to do what Eldar should do, which is dictate the pace and be mobile.
Because of the Deepstrike deployment it's very hard to set up any kind of formation that he can't outflank or avoid obviously dangerous units.
For my experience, the Eldar are doing what they can very well: Harlies and Scorps are messing him up in CC if they can get there in time, DAs are shooting him up but rarely got more than one phase before a Soulgrinder closes them down.
The real stand-out unit is the Warp spiders who he is rightly terrified of. They deep strike and pretty much wipe out whatever takes their fancy.
Biggest problem is he runs Plague Bearers as "operation meat shield" running (slowly) at the front, and they are impossible to kill (T5 5+ Inv Save and Feel no Pain) and once they get me in CC the faster moving units, that were hanging back, charge in.
Everyone gets an Inv Save and he can deploy anywhere and leave me with nothing to shoot at in turn 1 if I have to go first.
Most of our games are 2000pts and my list is:
3x10x Dire Avengers
3xWarWalkers (SLs and EMLs)
D-cannon + Warlock (to make up the points)
Anyone else got much experience here and can help out?
Always glad to help another eldar player, here goes.
Well as my eldar are mech, I just run away and set my battle line up somewhere else, so its like a pitched battle starting from turn 3 really.
Set up is THE most important thing against demons. The way to do it is set up in your deployment zone, and cover as much as you can. Take full advantage of the 2" coherency. Space out so that wherever he deepstrikes he will always end up with a model within 1" and make him roll on the mishap chart. Either that or he will deepstrike in front of you, meaning you can bring a decent chunk of your army to bear. Try and not leave anything more than a 3x3" area open, otherwise he could deep strike something like a demon prince down.
Against Daemons, Vibro cannons are brilliant, just to say.
Ok, now your force is mobile infantry. Meaning you should always be moving. Never stand still. Move back forward in and out. Use run if it denies him a turn of assault. Walk backwards from assault units, to kite them out and shoot em full of shuriken. *Doesnt apply to nurglings, try and blast template em with the prism*
Anything nurglitch can be by and large ignored by you. They on average run 7" a turn. Woop de doo, just ignore it and dont let it get in combat. Focus on the other threats. Take out things like bloodletters, crushers, anything with blood in the name really, flamers are nasty. Look out for keepers and slaaneshi stuff, its fast. Although your 30 avengers should make a mockery of it. If you have any shimmershield units point em at khornate units. Also, try mind warring his heralds, theyre LD is #~*!.
Hope this helps, any more questions and I will try my best =)
I have found doom and howling banshees against a unit of plague bearers can usually come out on top though it will take a little time. Those power swords just cut right out that feel no pain and even though they get a 5+ invulenrable it usually doesnt keep them alive for long. Fortune your girls and watch it become a huge stalemate in your favor.
Like the other gentlmen said dont fall for his traps. Go around the plague demons and focus on the more squishy stuff and easy kill points if thats what your playing. Again dictate who your up against and what really works good for that is a couple of wave serpents. The Dire Avengers in waveserpents just get down right nasty and it allows you to decide when and where your going to unload shuriken death upon his frail demon forms. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I probably need to be more strategic in my deployment and I also think it may be worth investing in some Waveserpents and go a bit mech as well.
May also get another 10xWarpspiders to keep him on his toes! Probably need to drop the d-cannon and 1 unit of DAs to keep the points right though.
Putting the Scorps in a WSerpent will allow that to flank as well. I suppose the more models I can get to scout and deepstrike I start playing him at his own game and with less on the table from the start he'll need to think about where he wants to deploy to as well.
