Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, im stuck. I want two units in my eldar 3000 points list but only have enough spare points to include one! Question is which one and why?
They are both the same amount of points. (730)
Choice 1: Vampire Hunter. Super Heavy flyer with 3 structure points and eldar titan holofields. Comes with one twin linked Pulsar (are:60 Str AP:2 Hvy2 5"blast) one twin linked Pheonix missile launcher (are:48 Str:5 AP:3 Hvy3) and a scatter laser.
Choice 2: Seer Council of Ulthwe. (Obviously renamed to fit my army who arnt named yet) Eldrad Ulthran. 3 Farseers. Doom Guide Fortune and 3 singing spears. 5 Warlocks. 1 with enhance 4 with Augment.
Augment allows the farseers power range to be doubled. (so dooming on 12" for example.) You also got Careful planning, strategic redeployment and ambush.
Edit: Poll is wrong, it should read vampire hunter.
Also Doom has a 18" range.
They both sound really good and i would say equal each other. it depends what your army is like, if it needs the heavy fire power of the hunter that would be good. but if the farseer support would help more, they would be better.
i would choose the Seers because i like to use an Ulthwe army.
I voted seer council, but that is mainly because I'm not convinced of the worth of a Vampire Hunter. I don't know what size table you play on, having a 60" weapon on a flyer seems a little unnecessary.
Personally I would go with 2 Phoenixs instead, cheaper on the pocket as well + I don't really like the vampire models. Although if you really want a destroyer weapon the (new) Cobra, Scorpion or Rev Titan are much nicer looking in my opinion
Eldar Rules, wrong. Doom has a 24'' range.
Also, augment is still around. Its a battle formation, and in the rules for the formation it states that your warlocks may to augment for a certain amount of points more. So doom will have a 48'' range and not require line of site!
Isnt augment the only warlock power that acutally requires a phychic test?
Back on topic. Id go with te seer council it has a lot more use becuase of the assests, plus wounds and the invul saves will help alot.
doom has a 24" range, augmenting it would be brilliant.
EDIT lol that guy above made this post pointless

thanks for the comments everone. Your giving me more to think about.
Im still undecided but the choice is getting easier.
The reason I put the vampire is because im scratch building it from a klingon bird of prey model. It could be a pheonix I suppose, they both look similar, it just depends on how big the model turns out to be!
The bird of prey certainly looks a lot like a vampire, so I see your reasoning there.
However check scale cos the vampire is massive. I saw this model at the recent GamesDay2008 and it's a beast. Check Vampire Hunter
Bear in mind the size of the crew compartment and then go check against a Falcon to get an idea of how big this puppy is. Remember the Vampire raider (same size) can transport 30 models.
Having used both, I can say use the vampire. The council is a very expensive use of points. And never makes its points up, ever. It dies easy in combat, whereas a vampire is almost unkillable, with 2 4+ saves, which can be fortuned (put a farseer in it).
The vampire sounds cool but I am partial to the seer council. Go out and lay waste to all thing human with a massive psychic storm.

The Vampire! The ability to send out huge fiery balls of death on a neigh unkillable flying behemoth is priceless. If for no other reason take it to put the right righteous fear of Khaine in those Space Marine cowards is another selling point. Nuke marines while looking stylish!
.....Or you know... watch their Thunder Hawk try to compete with the thing ha ha.
