This is just a quick little question I thought Id ask, this mainly goes out to people how have played against necrons and have some experiance in the field however I suppose anyone with knowledge of both necron and tyranid rules can offer some input. Right enough waffle time for the question...
When facing the crons most tyranid players know that warp blast is a very effective weapon which means that tyrants with warp blast and zoanthorpes can tally up quite alot of downed warriors in a game. My question is this what do you find is more useful when warp blasting necrons, do you prefer using the focused or unfocused blast?
For me both have good points and bad points;
The unfocused doesnt require a test so is therefore more reliable and safer  it also has a wider area of affect it does negate the crons armour save but it does not negate their WBB which is the weapons downside, but the unfocused can affect more models.
The focussed warp blast has a very high chance of destroying a necron totally, if it hits, however it only affects one necron this necron wont be getting back up (unless theres a resurrection orb near by...) and this power also requires a test making it less reliable and unsafe.
I for one can never decide which power to use in battle and generally mix up the 2 also I take into consideration if theres a Lord around and the toughness of the model.

I use the super only when face with Lords and Destroyes as ik can instantkill them,
but remeber everything counts in numbers,
But my preferred style is to use my TMC in CC
A simple checklist:
1. Is the target a lord (multiple wounds left) or a scarab swarm? If yes, use the focused (S10) blast. Stop the considerations here.
2. Can you cover two or more models (or one and at least two partials...) with a blast marker? If yes, use the normal blast. Stop the considerations here.
3. Is there a res orb allowing the enemy to take WBB tests even if you use the focused blast, and you can hit more than one model with a blast? If yes, use the normal blast. Stop the considerations here.
4. In all other cases, use the focused blast.
This should provide the best solution in very most cases.
I hardly ever use focused warp blast against necrons. It is good against monolith and all models on destroyer body.
The unfocused one is used to kill warriors. I usually target one unit with my all zoanthropes. In a turn I will have 1 or 2 small templates. One temlate=2 or 3 lying warriors. So from 2 to 6 casualties (before WB. Then attack by hormagaunts and with aid of some (not much) luck whole unit dissappears.
Generally I treat res. orb and WBB as extras for necrons. For shooting purposes I treat them as marines. Do not demonise their abilities. The key to victory is to concentrate warp blasts on a single unit.
Green Tide will consume You all!
Yes against Monolith is great.Bat versus swarms of necron warriors(lots of Necron players do that-like me-) i thing is useless. It is good against monolith
MEAT IS MURDER
Swarm of Necron warriors. Man, my Hive Tyrant can go on hunting!
not to mention i have never seen a necron warrior that wasnt in range of a resurrection orb, but anyway....
Id say go with the area blast. At the beginning the necrons like to use a necron phalanx, all bunched up with a lord in the middle. This way you can blast holes in his phalanx and he will start to spread out, in which case start using focused to pick off those necrons that spreat out too far away from the orb.
Other tips for nids against crons:
If your playing with the new summary, take two VCs if u can on ur fex is possible. 4 shots statitacally means 1 glancing hit on that monolith.
Beware of the monolith, for not only is it powerful, but it can pull warriors away from close combat and teleport them out of the monolith, leaving your cc units open to be shot at.
See what ur friend is using, and check their initiatives. I know the warriors initiatives are low and if its true with his other units dont waste points on adrenaline glands for the initiative bonuses. Same holds true when fighting krootless tau.
Take ripper swarms if possible, and tie up his scarabs. Remember, however, that hes probably ticked, considering the point of scarabs are to take out vechiles and tie up major cc units, and we dont have any vechiles! Be patient with your lictors, allowing the scarabs to fly by before he jumps into the warriors, or use the lictor to tie up the warriors so genestealers that infiltrated can hit the front lines.
Thats all i can really think of. Go after the lord but only if practical, same with going for phase out. And finallly, remember that WBB only happens if the unit trying to use WBB has units of the same kind near it ie take out elitest squads that are away from the orb as a whole so none of them can get back up. It also helps that the destroyers usually fly further, out of the range of the orb and rest of their army. Use that to your advantage.
Hope these help.
necron destroyers are a prime target as they are flexible and powerfull
