ok i am deciding what army to play in the semi-finals of ard boyz and i just played a game vs chaos, a very competitive chaos list. anyways i have my two units of 5 koptas and they are in reserve, they both enter via my right side where there is a predator and a unit of khorn bezerkers in a rhino, i surround the rhino covering all the axes points with a unit of koptas, they shoot at it and blow it up with a 6, now since all the exit ramps are surrounded all the models inside the rhine die, i think that is how it states it in the rule book, so that unit of koptas takes down a 285pt bezerker squad and the other unit of koptas takes down the predator, well done to them, they seem to do very well in my lists and i dont think i will ever leave home without them again. any one else have any stories about their koptas?
Chaos W/D/L 48/12/18 almost retired
Orks W/D/L 13/0/0 Still going strong
Space Marins in the making (Salamanders)
Actually, they could have made an Emergency Disembarkation and gotten out of the vehicle anywhere. They would be pinned next turn but still alive. Check the vehicles rules for full details.
I haven't used Koptas much, apart from outflanking solo koptaz. They managed to cause problems in the enemy backfield and diverted a whole unit's shooting so I'll call it a win.

Deffkoptas work best as anti-tank, and honestly, you might as well just give them big shootas. It's a lot cheaper than rokkits, and against back armor, it gets just as many vehicle damage results. The catch is they cause far more glancing results than penning results, and the rokkits get a lot of penning results, but I don't think it's worth the cost. It's up to you.
Either way, the best way to use deffkoptas are in units of 5, always outflanking the enemy (except perhaps in armorless lists), always supercharging any turn they're not firing, and with no other options besides their main guns.
I've used deffkoptas to take out tanks fairly well, although marines usually stand up pretty well, even to the rokkits. I prefer to keep them out of harms way and fire with the big shootas.
In a competitive setting, I'd probably use kommandos first though. 9-13 with either a nob/pk/bosspole or Snikkrot, and either burnas or big shootas. Either way, it'll probably be more effective then deffkoptas at doing damage and taking it.
Of course, the deffkoptas are great for contesting objectives, so it's up to you.
