Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just picked up a guardian squad & a Striking Scorpion squad as a starter for a small Eldar army - what are the next two/three units I should buy to make it more potent?
Cheers in advance!
Next youll want an HQ for sure. I would suggest starting with a Farseer. Youll need another troop choice as well and I would suggest 10 Dire Avengers. I prefer them to Guardians as their catapults have an 18" range and the Avengers themselves have a 4+ armor save. From there I would get atleast a 3rd squad of troops and then build from there depending on what you like.
EDIT: The Avengers have WS and BS of 4s also making them much better shooters ( hits on 3s ).

Cheers and thanks for the advice, a Farseer will be next then possibly the Dire Avengers and (after having had a look through the troops) a Howling Banshee squad...
Ta very much!
I'd suggest getting some Rangers/Pathfinders to add some long range fire and another troop choice. With the 5th edition rules they're deadly to heavily armoured troops. With the rending rules added to sniper weapons they now have a 1/3 chance to get AP 1 from the to hit roll and a 1/6 chance for AP 2 from the to wound roll. All in all not bad for popping those heavily armoured units, and if you drop them into some heavy cover they're a pain to shift without templates.

Guard - 55th Estor 1/1/0
A pair of fire prisms (or even a single one) or a squadron of war walkers would make a nice heavy support choice.

I just played a small game against a friend last night with an eldar force that consisted of: 1 farseer, 10 Dire Avengers (with exarch), 10 Guardians with scatter laser, 5 pathfinders and 5 Fire dragons (with exarch) who managed to pound a CSM force (albeit one commanded by a very new player!)
Worked very well, with one of the stars of the show being the DAs. so i'd definatly recommend a squad of DAs to compliment your guardians, plus a Farseer. The rest is up to you, one of the joys of collecting Eldar is the large number of possibilities the list affords.
