Well, the topic may be slightly misleading -- I'm disappointed with how they look visually! Am I the only one that thinks they are the stumpiest, ugliest arms a fex / hive tyrant can have? A carnifex with 2x TL-devourers just doesn't look impressive at all! In fact, they look deformed like they're slightly inbred...
I'm starting up a tyranid army and am having trouble deciding how to equip it. It seems like a healthy spattering of devourers across the MC's is a no-brainer, but I'm really hesitant to do it because of the 'coolness' factor. This alone is pushing me towards making a mostly CC army (with maybe a few sniperfexes, since they at least look pretty awesome).
Thoughts? Stop whining and get modelling! Theres a ton of people on here that feel exactly as you do and have created their own MC devourers. It usually involves sticking three devourer heads onto the end of a deathspitter of something. You can do anything you want however, this army mutates so its weapons dont have to look the same, so long as you tell your enemy what they are before the game the options are limitless.
I agree with Macewind on this one. I recently modeled some dakka MC's from an assault brood and a few tyrant models. As I didn't have enough MC devourers to equip them all, I added a few regular devourer heads to the deathspitters. With a little bit of green stuff, they turn out great! I have received many compliments on them.
In short, use the deathspitters with substituted heads if you want them longer, add more dev. heads if you want them bigger, or combine both ideas if you prefer both.
Those are good looking devourers you have there Triple Threat. I did something similar with a Carnifex and a twinlinked deathspitter. A deathspitter is a little different but you can do the same thing with a devourer. I used a barbed strangler for it and cut off the gun barrel. I then just stuck three deathspitter barrels together and glued them on in it's place. It is now a very big gun with three barrels instead of two small ones and is therefore allowed to be twinlinked. Here is a couple of pics of how it looks.
Very plant-like, Leech. Were you shooting for that appearance? It looks like the 'fex is almost a walking, giant, monstrous plant with big-ass guns!

I took the deathspitters personally and added two devourer heads (one upside down) to the end of the barrels. Looked good it did.
Leech, that is one nice fex.
