I'm currently finalizing my army list for the 2009 RT tournament season. I have developed two themed lists. One has a spider theme and utilizes Scorpions and Warp Spiders. The other is a shrine army that only uses Dire Avengers.
My question is about the latter:
Asurman would be a perfect HQ choice in this list, but do you think I would be scored lower for having a PL in my army?
My gut feeling is that I would be. The only alternative, I guess, would be to take a Farseer as a 'Shrine Priest'.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Stat wise, pheonix lords look good
Well really it seems it varies from tournament to tournament on you being scored lower. However looking at your fluff, and how Asurmen ties into a Dire Avenger shrine army he makes sense.
Now if you were taking Yriel, and Eldrad as well as a Phoenix Lord or Eldrad in a Biel Tan army then yeah thats kind of unfluffy and not really fun to play against.
Remember the Pheonix Lords appear on battle fields in time of need. It's easy to infer he showed up to lead a shrine of DAs on some epic mission to set the course of eldar history on a better path. I think you'd get scored higher for him then an Avatar. The shrine priest idea ain't bad though.
I've often wanted to make a banshee themed army, with mostly women models and a custom jain zar.
Asuryman is a bit too expensive for what he can, yet he makes Squad Exarch's job far easier It really depends on you, but yo could also have AR Exarch or Great Exarch of Shrine with Force Shield + Power Weapon; Shuriken Pistol and single Avenger Catapult (2 points I guess). He is fluffy too, and his master strategist is always useful.
