a bit of a rules clarification required here
can a mob of Nobz with painboy have a fraction of cybork body, or does the whole unit, every model, need to take cybork body?
really confusing in the codex. cause it doesn't say "the entire mob...." or "any...."
I think it says "may" so it means you can put as many as you want.
You can have it on as many or as few of the models as you like. It's your choice.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
This doesn't really seem right. Even though the wording is vague, it isn't like taking a powerklaw vs. a big choppa. It is an armor save for a whole squad. I would think you need to pay for all or none. Also, not that it is the holy bible or anything, but the Army Builder program only lets you upgrade a whole squad, not parts.
I think if you had to take cybork bodies on all of the models, it would say "The entire mob may take..." like it does with warbikes and stikkbombz. And also, there's a reason they have a little blurb in the rule book on "Complex Units", and things like some nobz having cybork and some not is a good example of a complex unit.
Although I had always considered that you'd upgrade all of them, I see no reason why that must be the case.
It's not like every pirate had an eyepatch, just the ones that lost their eyes.
Now, that being said, the game will be smoother if your units are mostly homogeneous, and without poring over the rules right now, my spidey sense tells me there's a sneaky half-exploit that could be pulled off with exactly half (or maybe half+1) of your boys with the upgrade.
In response to Yamen, I think that there could be an unfair exploit going on but to be honest you put an exact % of your mob in cybork (50% or 25% or something). From here you designate 1/2 of all attacks (or 1/4 if it's 25%) on the normal boyz and 1/2 on the cybork ones. Remove models based on how they die. After a round of combat or something where more boyz die than cybork (or reverse possibly) it would get confusing though so I would probably say just upgrade the entire mob for sake of convenience.
It doesn't really seem terribly unfair to me, as the entire mob can already be upgraded individually as is- giving a handful cybork bodies and the rest not seems perfectly fine to me, the way the whole unit can be geared (all PKs, some PKs 'Uge Choppas, TL shootas, etc). In using these options, a unit of nobs can already be a little complicated in terms of wound allocation. I think a general unwritten rule (or at least preference) is that simple is better.
Though the literal wording is a little ambiguous what the intent is- I'd say you can take them individually, but it'd be a major pain to do so.
The rules actually seem very clear about Cybork Bodies as far as I've read.
All models in the painboy's unit may have:
-Cybork bodies..... +X points per model p.98
Compare this wording to the 'eavy armor entry just above it:
Any Nob may take any of the following:
-'eavy armor.... +X points per model p.98
Big difference between "All models in the unit may have" and "Any Nob may take." It's very similar to the Genestealer entry in the 'Nid Codex.
Genestealers show occasional mutability - the whole brood may be equipped with weapon-symbiotes or biomorph enhancements chosen from the following list at the points cost indicated per model. p.39
As with the Cybork entry, it states every model in the unit may take the enhancements at a price listed per model. If your opponent tried to take just a single Feeder Tendril enhancement to only pay 1pt per Stealer squad no matter their size, you'd call him out stating that every model must take Tendrils based on that exerpt above. Especially if he then said "Well, one has Tendrils, the rest Acid Maw since a single Genestealer can't have both." According to how some people are trying to skew the written rule, this would be perfectly legal. It's not legal because the codex states all models have the option, not models individually. Cybork states all models have the option. 'Eavy armor, Klaws, Poles, etc. say single Nobz individually.
Haha, way to go Kirbinator. Checking the wording should always be the first step in rules disputes.
