Howdy everyone I was looking over my 1000 pts army and i was debating replacing the warbikes with 5 deffkoptas armed with big shootas. what do you think

i will go with deffkoptas every time, i actually use two units of 5 in my 1850 list and a unit of kommandos with snikrot, they work wonders. if i go first then i put them on the board, svout, then assault and tie up units so the rest of my army can move up the board. if i go sencond i keep them in reserve then when they come in they ususlly blow up a vehicle or cause havoc on whatever side they comein from. they have never proven me wrong and i have always made my points back either by holding units up or killing a lot of stuff.

It would depend on how the rest of your army is composed. For the points, Deff Koptas would probably be the better choice as they've got plenty of dakka, speed, and flexibility with scouting.
However, 6 warbikes with a PK Nob is only a few points more and still pretty nasty. They have a lot of dakka too, plus cover saves and the PK to help in combat. They make great support for your boyz by going after tanks and taking out shooty units or smaller squads. They aren't cheap sluggas though, so don't just throw them into combat.

It all comes down to when you want the unit to strike, and that will depend on what type of army you're playing.
If you're playing a horde army, primarily using large units of boyz, then I'd go with the deffkoptas. They'll arrive just when the battle is coming into full swing. The warbikes would either have to hold back (where they'd be shot up) or rush ahead of the army (where the enemy could focus on them). Either way, it's a bad idea.
If you're playing speed freaks, primarily using vehicles, then I'd go with the warbikes. They'll be able to supercharge up the first turn, providing a great distraction, and then they can go after vehicles, or support the units of boyz. The deffkoptas, on the other hand, might arrive too late, long after the trukkboyz hit the enemy's front lines.
In short, if you want support right away, or guaranteed by turn 2, then I'd go with the warbikes. If you have a slower paced army that won't get into full swing until turn 3 or 4, then I'd go with the deffkoptas.

Especially every game I have play with DKs I got them killed on turn 1, and still unbeaten with my orks so far!!
