I got my first box of guardians yesterday, and have them all assembled. Their heavy weapon is a starcannon, mostly for killin' MEQ's. I'm thinking about doing an Uthwe army, since psyker's are pretty damn awesome in general, so I was wondering if anybody had some tips or links on helping with the paint scheme. Right now, I'm fiddling a bit, and have painted one of my guardians with black under-mesh, and white plates and helmet, but I'm not quite satisfied with it. Any suggestions on where to look?
In general I find black and white hard to work with, white more so. Tone them down with a bit of grey and it changes the texture and makes it look more natural. I mix these at a rate of 8:1 to start off, and that should keep the original color (almost) and still look great. If you plan on highlighting to white the 8:1 rate should be where you end not where you start.
As for an Ulthwe army type it's entirely possible to have a fluffy army and still be effective.

Undercoat: Chaos Black.
Basecoats: Chaos Black, Bestial Brown, Bronzed Flesh, Scaly Green, Scab Red.
Highlights: Codex Grey, Bleached Bone + Skull White, Blood Red, Fiery Orange, Hawk Turquoise, Fortress Grey.
That's the official advice. I generally use black basecoat, bleached bone for the helmet/pads then highlight grey and dry brush lightly white to help show up the plates. Simple and fast!
