Welcome to Librarium Online!
Any of you guys have any suggestions for an army list that could beat a wide array of enemies from space marines to orks.
ps im new to eldar
Sisters Of Battle "Order of the Holy Flame"
Nids "Splinter Fleet Bestia"
Certain units are pretty good at an array of things.
Fire prisms in pairs are good in just about any army. Focused beam for high armor and tanks and large blast templates for hordes. Combine the beams in either situation for more power.
Wraithlords are tough and flexible. They can take a beating and will draw fire away from your other units. EML+BL combo is usually awesome for anti armor/tank duty and dual flamers are kick butt when things start to come in on them.
Striking scorpions in squads of 10 will have 40 attacks on the charge at S4. With a decent 3+ save they can hold up or beat similar sized squads.
Dire avengers IMO are the best all around troops. A decent 4+ save and 18" assault 2 guns are nice. Throw in an exarch with bladestorm with a farseer to doom an enemy squad and you can put out 30 shots with re-roll to wound. With that many shots youre bound to make your opponent take a lot of saving throws.
Warpspiders are fast and mobile. A squad of 10 can dish out 20 S6 that only need 3s to hit and 2s to wound on most things. Same thing as the avnegers really but more mobile and a better saving throw.
kk i get a list up within the next couple of days
Mechanized Eldar are pretty good at all comers.
With the wave serpents you can stay away from hordes, engage elites, and have plenty of anti-armor.
The key is to achieve balance to not have too few models.
"Orcs are what happens when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grow old and bitter."
This is my attempt at a reasonably balanced eldar army list. This is my first attempt, so please critique and advise me on any changes or additions i should make. Due to the fact i don't have the codex (yet) i don't know how many points this is. please tell me what the best equipment for each squad is and whether i should have an exarch as you can tell i am a noob.
Farseer-doom,guide,spirit stones and singing spear (worth putting on jetbike?)
Howling Banshees- what equipment should i have? should i have an exarch and how many banshees should i have in the squad?
Warp Spiders- no idea what equipment/how many in the squad
Dire Avengers-exarch,bladestorm and dual catapults. should i have two squads? if so how many in each squad?
Also are guardians needed/are they worth it?
Wraithlord- Eldar Missile Launcher and Brightlance (is this a good combo?)
War Walker(s)- Scatter Laser ( would be used more for lightly armoured foes)
Fire Prism- (heard they were awesome)
Was thinking of having a wave serpent in there or maybe two for the dire avengers or banshees or both. if i do have them what weapons should i have? was thinking of more EML's. Was also thinking i need a vyper or maybe some jetbikes in there. please tell me of i do. Also feel free to tell me what my army is lacking. p.s sorry about my lack of knowledge.
Farseer + doom is a good start. I usually just put that in first then upgrade with left over points depending what hes supporting. Usually ill take at least two with doom. I only put them on a bike if hes moving with a fast unit.
Banshees - I usually take 10 run them stock if theyre on a wave serpent. If not I usually take an exarch with counter attack an no other upgrades. Doom whatever they attack.
Scorpions - I suggest 10. I usually take the exarch scorpion claw for the S6 power weapon attacks ( good for opponents with good armor saves ). Taking shadowstrike is usefull to outflank or put them closer to an objective to help support it. Depends what youre doing.
Pathfinders - I dont like pathfinders personally. Some people love them, I dont. I never get enough wounds in smaller squads to make them any kind of usefull.
Dire Avengers - These are my go to troop choice. Exarch and blade storm is a must! Great agaisnt horde units. Ill stick a dooming Farseer with them and they can usually get a few kills on an MEW unit. Defend is great if you have the extra points to help them in CC. the shimmer sheild and power weapon combo helps even more for making them last in CC at an objective.
Guardians - Hate them. Defenders are like paths and never help much. Storm guards with 2x flamers and a lock with destructor is nice but I usually default to my avengers who last longer.
Wraithlord - BL-EML combo is the most comon way to equip them. They usually work out very well for me taking out armor and taking hits.
Warwalkers - A farseer with guide is usually needed with these ( BS 3 = 50/50 hit ). Scatters lasers can mow down horde armies. Cant beat 24 S6 shots. Another common gun is 6x EMLs. This is very flexible in that you can blast up S8 shots at vehicles and tough armor or shoot 6 blast templates at horde armies. With only an armor of 10 you need to be carefull with them.
Prims - Always take these in atleat pairs. Very strong focused shots and can drop large blast templates for non-vehicles. Combine beams for stronger shots! I always take 2 in every list.
Wave serpents - If im transporting something Ill try to take BLs on them. If not EMLs are fine. I usually dont take any other upgrades. If im fighting a horde army Ill go cheap with 2x shurican canons. If im strapped for points but need an xport ill just run with 1x shurican.
hey thanks part ninjaonce again you've been a great help
regarding your post is there are reason why you skipped warp spiders??
and why do u prefer bl's on the wave serpents over EMl's (just wondering if there was any particular reason). So this is my new and improved list thanks to all the help of the members of Lo.
x2 Farseer-Doom,Guide,spirit stones and singing spear
x10 Howling Banshees-in Wave Serpent EML & BL
x10 Striking Scorpions-Exarch,Scorpions Claw & Shadowstrike
10x Dire Avengers-Exarch,Bladestorm & Defend
10x Dire AVengers-Exarch,Bladestorm & Defend
x8 Warp Spiders
Wraithlord-BL and EML
x2 War Walkers-Scatter Laser on one EML on other
x2 Fire Prisms
i have no idea how many points that is but im worried that i might need some more troops . maybe a vyper in there. However i belive this list is pretty balanced. Anyone please tell me anything that would add to this list.
ps could someone tell me how many points this is overall??
One too many Heavy choices there!
Maximum 3 Heavies and you have four (2 prisms, warwalkers and wraithlord...)
Also, we can't post individual points costs (if that was what you were asking for), but i think your force is looking at around 1500 points at the mo!
A couple of things I like personally is Runes of Witnessing on my farseers (especially if you are throwing out 4 powers a turn), and maybe an exarch with your spiders for the combat bonus if they get caught.
Apart from that, looks like a good list so far!
Herald of the Colonel; Festooned with pistols, riddled with vermin, and finger lickin' good...
Yea forgot spiders:
I LOVE them. They take them in a lot of lists. I run 10 of them bone stock. Moe 12", fire, warp away. If youre smart you wont get assaulted. I never assault with them unless their is only one model left after they blast out 20 S6 shots.
Serpents can only have one weapon, not two. It's twin linked so its either BL or EML. I take the BLs since theyre lances. Anything over 12 armor counts as 12 ( except stupid Necrons ). EMLs are taken if i dont have the points to spare or need the range. some times Ill take one with a BL and one with an EML just for that flexibility.
You have 4 heavies in there and can only take 3. Prisms count as one slot each, not combined. I would drop the walkers or wraithlord.
When I take walkers I run them all with the same gun personally. If you are going to have varied guns, run 2 with each one having one of each. Dont sperate the guns onto seperate walkers. If one blows up, youll lose 2 of the guns all together so its better to keep it so you will still have the various guns
Whichever you drop, I would use those points to get atleat another troop choice. For 1500 pts I like to have atleast 3 if not 4. Maybe a 3-man biker squad with a shurican canon and a warlock with embolden. If you have the points take a 6 man squad with 2 canons. Keep them behind blocking terrain and within 24" of an objective. Move out 6", fire your two canons, then in the assault phase move them back into cover 6" so they dont get shot up ( edlar bikes are allowed to do this ). On your last turn boost 24" to the objective and sore points.
