Im preparing my exodite force for a campaign in march and need a bit of advice. Im going to be running 3 lists at 1, 2 and 3k points so I dont need anyone telling me to take something different, the chances are im already taking that something different already!
Im including 3 war walkers (using chariots) and 3 vypers (gamezone warhawks) in my force but I can decide on the weapons for them. My first thought was to give the walkers 6 scatter lasers for troop killing and the vypers a starcannon each and use them for terminator hunting.
Then I realised that maybe Id be better off giving the walkers the star cannons and the vypers the scatter lasers as the vypers would get more shots and be more manoeuvrable for outflanking troops while the walkers would get less shots but theyd be able to march straight at their target.
Obviously im going to support both units with other things like jetbikes but which weapon options do you think I should go with?
ALSO any info on how you use your own walkers and vypers would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know about game terms but there's something ultimately cooler about a walker with twin multi-barrel weapons.
And birds with big ray-guns, too, I suppose.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
I put scatter lasers on my warwalkers, and shuriken cannon+missile launcher on my vypers. It works very well, though I used to have dual cannons on the vypers 'till fifth. My recommendation would be to magnetize or pin the weapons. I sure am glad that I did; because when different rules come out you will be ready.
It would be helpful for us to know what your lists look like. If it is full of scorpions, spiders, and bikes scatter lasers are probably going to be less helpful.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
Thanks for the feedback so far, I hadnt considered EML's but now I am
My lists contain...
1k list. Farseer/guide. 2 units guardians, 1 unit pathfinders, 2 units jetbikes, 1 unit walkers, 1 unit vypers
2k list pretty much the same with some banshees, harlies, shining spears and a falcon.
3k list is to be worked out.
The 1k list must have a single troops choice and only 1 heavy slot.
Yeah, the EMLs let you still move 12 and fire everything, which is pretty much the best thing you can get out of the Vypers. That way you can add fire support each turn where ever it is needed by jumping around the board. It also adds quite a bit of versatility as you can switch to a s8 ap3 shot if you really have to.
If you like the light vehicles they should really be the only thing you have. Once you add in that Falcon, all you enemy's anti-tank that was wondering what to shoot at now has a nice juicy target. Just spam more Vypers and Warwalkers and you should be good to go, as lascannons and such are really wasted on them (especially with 4+ cover).
I've found that scatter lasers kill marines just as well as star cannons do (and kill everything else much much better), the only difference is that you might have some trouble against 2+ Armor. I might drop one of your 5 troops choices (I usually find pathfinders aren't worth it, though they might be slightly better with rending now) in your 1000 point list to add in either spears or harlequins (they actually deal close to the same amount of damage). Banshees need a transport and that might be a no-go if you are trying to overload your enemy with light stuff.
Im trying to avoid vehicles as much as possible, but I have 3 large dragons that will take the place of falcons and serpents. The campaign isnt until march so ive plenty of time to sort out the list but im actually starting the vypers now so thats why im asking.
Just so you have an idea, these are the models that will be my vypers.
check out my modelling thread for work already done including a dragon and an avatar wip.
I would drop the pathfinders, but for 120points there isnt anything else worth having. I reckon they'll be worthwhile capturing my home objective with their added cover save.
If you have got some time, build the vypers/WW and use pins and magnets as suggested before. Then proxy a few games, see what you like. For me I don't like the starcannons, then again I don't face many termies.
I highly recommend warwalkers with eml and scatter lasers. A ton of strength 6 shots kills meqs, geqs, mcs, and even transports.
Haven't had much luck with starcannons since the new book. Brightlances are less useful now too, we now live in the time of the scatterlaser/eml.
Macewind: I never had much luck with rangers/pathfinders except as home objective grabbers. Pathfinders on an objective are hard to kill.

When I play my eldar, I usually field eml on my vypers and scatter laser + shuriken cannon on the war walkers. If I had the weapons left, I would put 2 scatter lasers per warwalker instead of a shuriken cannon.
The warwalkers are usually kept in reserve for outflanking moves.
