I am newly starting out with Tyranids, don't know all that much about them, but I have a few models and am trying out three army themes that I think I will actually continue with.
First army is quite a jungly themed one, pale green body with a black/red faded carapace. Similar to one in the book already.
Second set of models is an urban theme, more bluey and based on blacks and greys.
The third is for fun but actually I really like: Ladybird theme! Black bodies, red carapace with black spots and white markings on the head
It came to me in a flash of brilliance and I'm glad to have tried it
I paint my Tyranids with purple exoskeleton (flesh) and a black carapace (shell), I think shell may actually sound nicer. Purple and black is the closest I can give on the poll but they actaully a bit different. I use very heavy shading and drybrushing on the exoskeleton and then give it a purple ink stain. Details then recieve dark red ink to make them look fleshy and more interesting. The whole purple area is then highlighted. The carapace is painted black and then recieves cold greens to bring out it's shape with a final drybrush and then highlight with white. Then the carapace is given a cold green ink stain.
Here is an example, I hope this helps you in deciding how to do your own Hive fleet.
they are so cool. Do you have more pics. Also, do you mind me "Borrowing" that scheme...
I started painting my hive fleet on Saturday, I have about 2000 points so far. Initially I was going to go for black, then I thought, no, they deserve more and being inspired by the Incredible Hulk I have Opted for a Kommando Khaki shell and Catchan green body.
I bought the new spray gun from GW, which while they claim it is designed for the foundation paints worked very well with the regular ones.
So far I have painted 3 'fexs and I am very pleased with the results, it looks great on the board. I'll try and post some pics when I get in from work if you like.
I'd love to see a white / red nid army.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Once you decide on a scheme, this tutorial may help you paint your figures more efficiently.
I love the White and purple setup, purple outside and white on the lower colors such as the arm if you get what I mean.
