Ok. First off, lets get one thing straight. I am asking for tactics in this thread and not calling the monolith cheesy because I do not think that it is, so I dont want to hear anyone say this or have this topic turned into another "the monolith should cost more" thread. Now, on to my dilemna.

I used to play necrons, but then sold them to my friend who was just starting up so he could have a nice beginner army and I could put more money towards my death guard and starting back up my 'nids. I now play Death guard exclusively until my nids are painted up(in other words, a couple years  jk).

Anyways, my friend has decided to go out and buy 2 more monoliths to give him a total of three. He has also decided to use his deceivcer. This will be in 2000 pts. Also, being very fond of destroyers, he will most likely take 5 of those, and a lord maxed out. He is very fond of the "2 units of 10 warriors setup" (as you may be able to tell). All in all, with the above mentioned stuff, he has used up 1825 of his points, which he will probably use the rest for a small squad of immortals to fly around with his lord.

With me being an ex-necron player, I know that the obvious tactic is to go straight for the warriors and phase him out. The problem is, he will most likely set up the warriors in the corner, completely shielded by the three massive monoliths. Then, his destroyers and lord with VOD accompanied by immortals will stay out of my relatively slow army's reach and blast me and my limited supply of tanks. His C'tan will then tear through my units unopposed in H2H and the monoliths will hit me with 3 ordanance templates a turn.

Playing death guard, My main anti tank weapons in 2000 pts are a 3las predator, a Tl las dread, my greater daemon, LT's melta bombs, and 6-8 melta guns from troops/havocs. As you can see, with my meltas not having a great chance of destroying them, and my Greater daemon not being able to hurt them, that leaves my 2 vehicles that will be dead from his first volley of shots.

I can just send some plaguebearers to mess the C'Tan up so im not worried about him, but how can I possibly get to the warriors behind the 'liths?

Deepstriek WHATEVER you can at his warriors. Now, being DE, if I new what I was coming up against that, I'd give ALL of my raiders and ravagers screaming jets. Deepstrike the whole damn army, kill EVERYTHING will Dark Lances. Drop off my HQ, Assault with my wyches, then plant my Webway portal for my Talos. Phase him out in the 3rd turn, if not second.

If your buddy was smart he would take more destroyers and less monoliths, but... I don't know why he is running "defense," which is a tad overkill with a C-Tan and Three monoliths. He should have two monoliths in deep strike and one on the board. Anyhoo, monoliths are a pain in the ass, so I would load up on the lascannons if he is going to cower in the corner like a little puss. Devestator Squads and Predators are the best odds to kill monoliths. Meltaguns/pistols are still a good bet and don't forget you can still assault a monolith! It's just a tad harder!

Take a defiler with indirect fire. Then just keep dropping pie plates on the warriors until they are no more. It should be easy to measure out to the corner...

will be diffucult with such might against you, but you'll probably now to get to the warriors, with such much points spents on other stuff number's will range against him.

I agree with havok that a defiler will prove usefull
another good option it trying to get your Hq into cc but this you will know already yourself

See, the thing is, I dont have a defiler and I dont want to buy one just for this(hate the model and it ius a point sink). Also, I cant get lascannons or any other heavy weapons on my troops, only on vehicles, which, like i said, will be gone on turn one. And the only thing that I can deepstrike are terminators, which I dont haver because they suck. Assaulting it, with what? The highest I have is strength 8, so that means 6's to hit, 6's to glance, 6's to destroy. Dont like my odds there.

    You, are screwed.

Anyway, hulldown the dread, then shoot his lith's from 48" away (with both the dread and the pred) (you have more range, use it) try to get atleast one down in the first turn. Then continue working on the other two and assault his C'tan. Then get your other squads near the warriors (you must do this after all the liths are destroyed) and phase him out.

Try proxing a Defiler in a few games. You will find that it always manages to make back its points plus a lot more.

I agree w havok. The defilers always manage to make their points backk.
You could use a deep striking terminator sqad, or field some havocs w infiltrate and meltaguns... get closer and shoot them to pieces.

Infrazael are you talking about DE or DG...

Like archonofdeath said you must blow up those Monoliths before doing anything else...
