Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi im new to tau I have several other 40k armies. I was just wandering on some suggestions on what to get next I have the codex and battle force. I plan on using the battle suit in the battle force as a commander for the time being. I want to do a fire line type army with some battle suits running around causeing havoc. Any suggestions for a new tau player or to my army idea?

A few articles you'll want to read
Markerlights: The Thing that gives our units that extra kick
X-V8 Guide: How to get the most out of them!
These two I really, really, really enjoyed. I got a lot out of them, and they'll give you a hint of what differenciates Tau from the rest of the gunline forces.
Now, what to buy next? I'd either get the skyray(as it can be a devilfish, a hammerhead, or a skyray), and/or another battleforce(gets you another unit of firewarriros, another devilfish, another battlesuit, and some kroot-good filler infantry to counter-assault/infiltrate).
I'm a bit new myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Good luck!
Just as a suggestion, you could go for a markerlight-themed army. Three squads of Skyrays, three squads of Pathfinders, maybe a couple ML drones or Pirahnas with seeker missiles. Since the game is heavily skewed towards early-game leads (the game can end as early as turn 5!), a seeker missile blitz would devastate most armies. In the midgame, use your Pathfinder Devilfishes (which are being used by your regular troops) to precision-drop some suits behind enemy lines. In the late game, use markerlights to drop the leadership of enemy troops and make then run off their objectives, or the table entirely.
The best part of the idea is that it can be one of the cheapest builds, too. Last I heard, the Skyray box has all the bits for a Hammerhead as well, so with a bit of tinkering you can swap between Skyrays and Hammerheads at will. If the Pathfinder blisters are too expensive, make a squad of normal Firewarriors with carbines and call them Pathfinders...it's WYSIWYG as long as the troops all have rifles, and 100% GW if you like the tournament scene.

To make pathfinders I tend to do what the above poster has suggested.
I take the shoulder pads and use them for my Gue'Vesa (counts as Fire warriors) units, and go for a light armoured version of a carbine warrior for my pathfinders
this is for two reasons:
1. Metal PF just got expensive.
2. The extended helmets look silly and the models generally suck compared to the FW models IMO.
