Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm getting into Tau and I was wondering about the effectiveness of the Tau Farsight lists. Are there any Shas'o about that can give me some advice regarding effective Farsight Enclave lists since they seem to be much different from the older edition verson (which I liked more frankly.)
'An open mind is like a fortress with its walls unguarded and its gates wide open' -Blood Ravens
basically fill up on lots and lots of crisis suits and max out on fire warriors. You'll need them with everything you lose. Farsight's own unit can be nigh indestructible if you have the points for it, just imagine how many shield drones that unit can have. Or how many marker drones that can light up the enemy for the whole army.
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
Farsight lists aren't very different -- if at all -- from my usual non-Farsight themed list. For example, my heavies are almost always 1 each of broadsides, skyray, hammerhead. Works out just fine in regular games, and the HS restrictions are far and away the most notable of the Farsight list restrictions.
Make those your HS choices, then load up on Fire Warriors, and once you're satisfied with Troops, take nothing but XV8s on top of that. It'll be a great force that doesn't even have to be led by Farsight to be great.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Just bear in mind that if you want to take a fully kitted out Farsight HQ (often referred to as the Farsight DeathBomb), you'll be looking at between 950 and 1000pts. However, the unit is huge, can take tremendous amounts of in-coming firepower and still come out the other side, and can dish out a prodigious amount of shooting as well.
An FSE is good fun - a list where you can take 20 XV8s has got to be fun! - and the DeathBomb scares the pants off many an opponent.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
Farsight armies seem to force a more resourceful tactical and strategic viewpoint.
You can't have more than one of just about anything, and your Fast attack is 0-2, which stops your chances of reacting quickly with mobile firepower, and the Ace-in-the-hole unit is attached to one helluva big price for up to 8.
The army is one of the most powerful Tau lists you can get. I mean, how many armies do you know that let 8 platforms land in the middle of the enemy and fire at potentially separate targets each with their impressive firepower, then take a round of and begin to tyrade their way into the enemy that's there?
From my playtesting, I believe the Shovah army's biggest turning point centers heavily on the use of Shovah himself.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Me and my friends always play annihalation so my FSE list is-Farsight, 8 bodyguards, 1 shas'o w/ 2 bodyguards, 9 battlesuits for elite, 2 squads of 6 FW for troops. FW start on board and hide till turn 2 when, knowing my lucky rolls, they all come in..
Plasma rifles rapid fire, 18 shots no saves
/me winces at the thought of 9 fireknife or deathrain suits charging up the field...in one unit o_O
hmm...9 shovah suits, 3 commander/bodyguard suits, 9 elite suits...21 xv8 crisis suits in total. you don't NEED more then one railhead to support that
would you ever want to play a list that evil
I made a list for it and it is just pure evil it has farisight a Shas'o and 7 suits in the hq that just deepstrike with 8 marker drones and 8 shield drones its like impossible to kill and i cant wait to test it
I have played a Farsight list quite a few times over the years ( bomb unit included in various configs) and I always deal with the bomb unit the same way, get it into CC with a cheap unit (or cheap units)and watch as it does nothing for two or even three turns, if the Farsight unit won the CC then I simply moved another unit in. This leaves the rest of the depleted list (so many points are tied up in the uber unit) to be picked of with the rest of my list (because I will have more units due to not investing so much into one unit). The most success I have had is playing against an enclave uber unit list with my Nids, I simply rushed Hormies and Stealers up the field and tied up the unit for most of the game, in one game a Stealer unit wiped out three suits of the unit and then proceeded to sweeping advance the whole unit from the table.
You do not have to wipe a bomb unit out to negate it, as soon as it is in CC it is not doing what it is configured to do 'shoot' and deepstriking is even worse because the unit cannot move away.
The uber unit has been and always will be a gimmick, a fun one I will grant you but a gimmick none the less. Farsight enclave lists work better without Farsight as it happens, he is not so hot and you get better value out of a straight Shas'El or two. Enclave lists can be a challange and this is what is attractive about them, I would just advise against the uber bomb unit unless it is just for fun games though.
