I was wondering wether you markerlight the entire squad, or just one man in it, as i would like to make my hammerhead's ordnance hit on a 2, over a whole squad.
i would say 1 markerlight hit results in one weapon in ur army hitting on 2+. whether it be a rail gun or pulse rifle, only one weapon gets the 2+ to hit. i think the railgun submunition round would hit on a 2+, with those part under it hit on 4+, as per normal. the whole markerlight thing is to effectively make a weapon fire at BS 5. hope that helps.
I think this answers your question...
from the GW Canada site, Tau FAQ, answered by Pete Haines and Graham McNeil, co-authors with Andy Chambers of the Tau Codex.
If I use a markerlight to illuminate a unit (i.e. not a tank), is the whole unit hit on a 2+ or only a single model? If a single model, which one?
The whole unit is marked (be it tank, infantry or what have you). However note that only a single model, nominated by the Tau player that has not fired yet gains the benefits of hitting on 2+ that turn.
Crap I have been cheated. A buddy plays like the whole squad hits on +2.

lol, rude effort
next he'll be saying they hit on a 1+
So the hammerhead submunition can hit on a 2, and the ordnance template is just put there to see how many models can be wounded?

So if we mark a man in a squad then do we get to choose who to shoot rather than the oppossing player, say one wants to take out a missle launcer in a devestator squad?

No. The UNIT is marked. You get a 2+ roll with one of your models to hit the opposing UNIT. Assuming you hit, the other player places the wound however he wants, within the rules, as normal. You cannot use the markerlight to single out enemy models in a unit.
I think all the questions were answered... but I'll jump in anyway! Markerlights are counted as any other hit (with the exception that cover saves cannot be taken against them) and a model in the TAU army can shoot and hit (with ONE WEAPON ONLY) on a 2+... So if you have a pathie team and they try and mark a unit of Ork Slugga boys... they hit three times and you have a three man Battlesuit team with Missle pods and Plasma rifles within in range to unleash a volley of fire... The battlesuits can shoot to hit with EITHER the Missle Pods OR the Plasma Rifles on a 2+.... not both.... hope that clears it up!
