Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new to tau i played my first 500 point game on tuesday I won drew and lost in a single annihilation game (turn 5-7 we were drawing, we accidently played 8th turn he killed devilfish then we decided to carry on and i killed all his chaos by his 6 man CSM squad fleeing off the board.)
From that game and some math hammer it seems to me that Meq are pretty tough to kill.
3 crisis plasma and fusion killing 4 in rapid fire range
10 fire warriors in devilfish killing 2 in rapid fire range
11 vespid killing 4 in Rapid fire range
each lot around the same cost as 12 normal space marines
return fire kills
5.5555 fire Warriors
1 crisis (didnt think you could spread around wounds if you can unit suffers 2 wounds instead)
I know your meant to use combined force but still troop heavy SM or CSM look nasty
Shas'el seems odds on winner verus Meq but also looks instakill waiting to happen
Hard Wired Multi-Tracker
Cyclic Ion Blaster
Out of rapid Fire range
In rapid fire
Out of rapid fire against like points 0.75 wounds
In rapid fire range 1.3 wounds
So if you skipped all the mathammer ho do you go about killing Meq particularly troop heavy Meq

Focus on one squad at a time and when they come to assault you/get in close quarters assault them with your commander as long as its normal marines. because they will not kill him as long as you give him stimulant injector (while they might but it wont be easy if they have no power weapon)
My Commander has Iridium Armour Shield Generator and Stimulant Injector and he has taken kharn after 2 rounds of combat before now that was lulzy.
You kill MEQs like you kill everybody else we face:
You focus fire. Kill one unit at a time.
You use your superior speed to bring more guns to bear on a small portion of the enemy than that portion can withstand. "Localized superiority" is the name of the game.
Don't keep getting distracted by different things. Stay focused. Stay distant. If something gets too close, just fly away, reposition, and set things up until they're in your favor again.
Having Crisis suits with plasma rifles helps. I'm a big fan of the Centurion Shas'el and Fireknife Elites. Speaking of the Centurion, when you hit on 2s, it's surprising how many 6s you roll with that CIB when wounding! That guy kills more terminators than anything....
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I think i'll get Stimulant injector, how much of a loss is the d6 jet pack move compared to the armor save gain and the main problem would be the points cost 50 points over my current build if i add stimulant injector. ii assume your commander is a Shas'o. Also with shield generator and stimulant injector you resolve the injector first right.
Kharn vs you charging
Combat phase 1
Kharn causes 0.888888 wounds
you cause 0.55 wounds
combat phase 2
kharn causes 0.88 wounds
you cause 0.44 wounds
so you got pretty lucky to kill kharn really with average hitting and wounding hed of had to fail all his saves.
But nevermind that, congratulations Tau beat the blood god protedgy in assualt
Re: number 6
If the commander I listed is the Centurian im a big fan too, only Plasmas kill Meqs aswell as CIB with average rolling and with loaded dice the CIB owns all
From my mathhammer results you would need to put all the stuff listed together to make sure you take out that unit of 12 Meq thats at least a 380 point difference in points.
Ill see if my new (Tau old) tactic of faking my deployment to make oppenent spread out then rushing to weakest point with everything works on Thursday.
All the tactics i can think of for Tau seem really hindered in Kill point games especially anything with drones. Is it just me orarent Tau the best at kill points

The point is its not that hard to survive against kharn in combat with a Shas o thats decked out unless you get really unlucky
I spend 165 or so points on my Shas'O and people would probably say thats a waste.
Well its not why have a cheap commander when ive got enough as it is. Ive got 3 deathrains 3 burning eyes and a centurion commander as my suits and they do great
ive got everything else as well so i think what the hell im going to have a decked out commander that people just look at him and fire everything they have at it and then fail
Just try it youll find him basically anti everything cept a heavy tank and the d6 move isnt that big of a deal espcially if you deploy like me.
