Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi. I've been rebuilding my Eldar army from scratch and here is what I've bought so far -
10 Dire Avengers
5 Dire Avengers
10 Guardian Defenders
6 Striking Scorpions inc. Exarch
6 Howling Banshees inc. Exarch
Heavy Support -
5 Dark Reapers inc. Exarch
2 War Walkers
1 Wave Serpent
What I'm thinking of buying next is another battalion (the cause of the small Guardian and Dire Avenger squad - the battalion contains almost exactly half of what you want of everything included - props to GW marketing), to round out the Guardian and DA squads, and complete the WW squadron, as well as give me another WS. I will also round out the SS and HB squads. After that I'm not sure - maybe a full group of Vypers for some Fast Attack? Warp Spiders? Basically, what is my army missing. My opponents are mostly MEQ, with a sprinkling of Orks, IG and Tau.
From reading the forum I'm getting the feeling that because of the BS difference I should always take a Fire Prism over a Falcon, is this correct? I'm very keen to try out Wraithlords as well, with heavy weapons rather than a Wraith sword. I'd like to buy an Avatar, but I think it would be a total mission to paint, and I've got enough of that to do at the moment. Autarchs seem good, but considering I have no deep striking units it seems a waste of one of his key abilities.
So have I taken this force in a dead-end direction? If so, can I salvage it, and if not, what next? Money is not a pressing issue, although obviously I'm not just going to go mental and buy loads of Forgeworld stuff.
it seems you have a fair amount of firepower. currently i see 2 things your only vechicles are the wave serpent an the war walkers which means trhey will ddraw most of the big guns. secondly i would try to get your scorpians and banchees up to at leat 10 as they are an assault squad. My next purchase would be either a wraith lord or a falcon.
a seperate thought would be what is your wpns load out for the war walkers and serpent.
I wouldn't get a fire prism unless you were going to get 2, because combining the shots is basicly a large rerollable marine killer or a AP1 tank killer, and if you only have 1 those marines get their armour save and you only wound on 3s not 2s.
I'm definitely going to fill out the SS and HB squads. That's almost next on my list.
For the War Walkers after reading these forums quite extensively over the last month or so, I'm going to go with all scatter lasers for the first three. The range makes up for being more expensive than the shurikan cannon, especially with an extra shot.
I'm quite happy for the War Walkers and Wave Serpents to draw fire. That means that the Dark Reapers and Howling Banshees, my real MEQ killers, are safe and sound. Also, Wave Serpents do really kinda suck as a fire base in my opinion, so if the enemy decides it is a major threat, who am I to argue?
Unless they have a very expensive squad inside them.
It's such a shame Star cannons got fixed.
Is it true Guardians suck now?
Oh and for the Wave Serpents - probably one with BL and one with EML.
i play against a person on regular basis who was able to win with eldar before there new dex. his army is primarilly made up of guardians. they are good for two main reason.
the first is they have a heavy wpn that can move and fire and its protected by at least 8 bodies not to metion the pysker with conceal
the se3cond reason they are good is because you forget about them because you are so worried about other stuff ( ie wraith lords, tooled up assault squads, & the ilk) that they became low on the target priorty list and win games by sitting on objectives.
