Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've been looking through some forums for some tactical advice since I recently bought a DE army on a whim and knew basically nothing at all about them and most things seems pretty clear now but I don't quite get the dark lance squad gunboats.
If I'm not totally mistaken the raider has to stand still in order to shoot the squads lances and that doesn't sound too good in my ears but perhaps I am missing something?
yeap you are missing something very important.
The gunboat squad is not mounted on the raider, the result being that you get 2 dark lances from two different targets. One more vulnerable and moveable and one with a bit more life but can hold down a firelane
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
Rock is cheese, Paper is just fine
WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
to add to what Splata said, the now empty raider becomes a gun boat when you load it with a 10 man warrior squad. With the warrior squad, you can have 2 splinter cannons and 2 blasters. The raider can move, fire its own DL and the warriors can all shoot their 6 splinter rifles, 2 splinter cannons, and 2 blasters. That's 14 shots with a 24" range and 2 with a 12"
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
It is important to note that super gun boating requires two squads, a basic warrior squads with 2 SC and 2 Blasters and a raider squad (probably with a dark lance). The warrior squad rides around on the raider squad's raider (thanks to 5th edition) and the raider squad sits there as 1/2 a sniper team.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
Ahh thanks for the answers guys, it all makes sense then but I got it a bit mixed up and thought one version of the gunboats was to have a DL squad in the raider
I'm hijacking my own topic and ask another question that arose during a game I had tonight. And that is, what fire arc does the DL/Dizzies have on a ravager? Do the side lances count as sponsons as the codex only says it's armed with 3 lances? And does the front one count as a hullmounted weapon? Or how do you more experienced guys play it?
My gut tells me that the 2 side guns are sponson-mounted AOS 1 and the front is 45.
I'd like to play them all as sponson Mounted weapons, but very rarely will my ravager shoot anything that isn't in front of it.

Help the kin TAKE your soul, I mean, take your soul...
I play Vassal. I'm in V40K Open Ladder.
But if your conscious tells you it isn’t physically possible to rotate back through the vehicle, well the arc stops against its sides.
Now some players just use the gunners holding the lance as its easier to do weapons swaps this way and then they go onto pivot the gunner anyway they want to.
I see this as bypassing the fact that the weapon is mounted on the vehicle and not given to the crew to hold, in short cheating.
The side guns are not ‘sponson’ mounted, as sponsons are a housing that contains the guns and Ravagers don’t have these at all. They are all pintle mounted and can rotate until they hit a restriction – and here is where the interpretation starts. Is the vehicle itself a restriction?
I still haven’t really decided on that one yet and with no Codex description to help us out I don’t think its really going to be solved.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
Once again thanks for the answers, my common sense and the way we played it is that the side weapons are the equivalent of sponsons and have the same firearc as they have and the front one counts as a hullmounted weapon. And as you point out wickywacky they are indeed mounted on the ravager which should mean they can't be 360 degrees which I had small hopes of in some strange imaginary world
